Jim Carrey to Pen Self Help Book

March 17, 2008

Funny man Jim Carrey is taking a break from acting to pen a self-help book about battling depression.

He says, "I dealt with depression for a while by medicating with Prozac and although it was good for dealing with the problem there and then, I wasn't getting to the bottom of my anger and frustration.

"I think we have a real problem these days in that everything is treated with a drug. I think there's a whole new way of healing depression that doesn't require drugs, and I'm writing a book about it. Who better than a comedian to talk about depression right?"

We couldn't agree with Carrey more! Prescription drugs are handed out like breath mints in Hollywood. There are so many actors that are currently on Prozac that don't even suffer from depression. This dependency on anti-depressants has seriously gotten out of hand, especially the past few years. What are your thoughts?

Cognitive therapy can work in battling depression, but only for a while and it won't work well against major clinical depression. But yeah, the non-drug path should be tried first.
