Why Jessica Simpson Named Daughter Maxwell Drew Johnson

The world impatiently awaited the birth of Jessica Simpson’s first child, but now that Maxwell Drew Johnson has finally arrived, it all seems worth it.

Although speculation ran rampant with jokes even from Jessica, the baby was not, in fact, a year old or “Game of Thrones” star Peter Dinklage. She was a normal celebrity baby at 9 lbs. 13 oz., born Tuesday at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles in a deluxe maternity suite that probably cost more than your first car.

The funniest Tweet about the birth came from Depressed Darth (as in Vader) who claimed that “Kanye busted into the delivery room and said Beyonce had the best baby of all time.”

Jokes aside, the proud new mom announced, “Eric and I are elated.” Writing of the joyful event on her website, she continued, “We are so grateful for all of the love, support and prayers we have received. This has been the greatest experience of our lives!"

Why the name Maxwell Drew? Maxwell is fiancé Eric Johnson’s middle name, and Drew is the maiden name of Jessica’s mom, Tina Simpson.

Jessica’s father, Joe Simpson, seems delighted to play the role of doting grandfather. He’s already been caught shopping for little Maxwell, Us Weekly reports, selecting a giant pink stuffed bear (only $80) at the hospital gift shop.

This isn’t his first time at the rodeo! Joe, 51, is also a proud grandpa to Bronx, the 3-year-old son of Jessica's sister Ashlee Simpson and ex Pete Wentz.

Up next for the new parents? Could it possibly be a wedding? Though Jessica and Eric had planned to marry before having Maxwell, they decided to hold off. As Jessica said on "The Tonight Show" back in March, "I do still want to wear the pretty gown, so I have to wait."
