Kara Laricks Named the Winner of First Season of \'Fashion Star\'
Last night, NBC’s fashion talent show 'Fashion Star' named Kara Laricks as it’s winner!

Fashion Star is that show that Jessica Simpson is on and also tweets about non-stop. I think caftans are involved, must double check.

The winner will have her collection in H&M, Macy’s and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Runners Up included Ronnie Escalante and Nzimiro Oputa, but it was Kara’s androgynous women’s wear that prevailed. A former fourth-grade schoolteacher, Laricks always told her students to be true to themselves. Finally, she took her own advice and pursued a career in fashion.

In the first episode, Kara designed something that was called a collar-plus-tie, which is like a long collar connected to a bow tie that you attach to other outfits that don’t already have a collar. I thought it was weird, but the judges loved it.

The mentors (Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie, and John Varvatos) were thrilled with the winner and probably also happy that NBC announced during Upfronts that the show was renewed for a second season.

The collection that Kara designed for Macy’s includes khaki straight-leg pants, a short sleeved blazer and a bright red and blue spotted blouse.

The collection she designed for H&M includes a black romper, a maxi dress, and a short mullet-style printed frock.

But it was her winning collection for Saks Fifth Avenue that really stole the show. An ivory maxi dress, a copper and cream trench coat, a black mini dress, and some wide leg work pants complete her winning ensemble.
