Jessica Simpson Fires Publicist Over Mayer Drama

Just when you thought the Jessica Simpson and John Mayer saga was over, think again! I guess Jess wasn't too keen on having a "Public Affair" after all. Simpson's manager dad, Joe Simpson, gave his daughter's publicist Rob Shuter the ax this week.

The Simpson camp was upset about the way Shuter put the spin on Jessica’s growing relationship with John Mayer, with a People magazine cover story Aug. 31 touting Simpson's declaration that she was in love eventually turning into an Us Weekly cover pronouncing the singer was "Dumped!"

As Hollyscoop had mentioned earlier this week, Jessica denied she was dating John on The View and a source told Radar magazine that the story was overblown and was "100 percent Shuter. He broke all the rules of the game. He's a pathological liar. I wonder how much Jessica even knew what he was up to."

Meanwhile, the latest issue of Star points the finger at Joe Simpson and an Epic Records executive who allegedly cultivated the romance in the media to add to the buzz surrounding the release of Simpson's latest album, "A Public Affair", which ended up moving about 95,000 copies its first week out.

In our honest opinion, Joe Simpson definitely had his finger meddled in this situation. He told People magazine "I love John Mayer…If my daughter's happy, then I'm happy. And if she's in love, then I'm in love with the fact that she finds happiness. It's been a tough year for her." I think it’s a desperate publicity stunt from the Simpson camp to get back at Nick Lachey and prove to the public that Jessica has moved on. It’s definitely no coincidence all this occurred right before Jessica’s album was released.

What does John Mayer think about all this hoopla? A source says John is distancing himself from his brief fling and will now "stay away from her…He thinks it's desperate. An attempt for her to stay in the spotlight." "It's very clear to John who was pushing this story"

UPDATE:

Although reports claim that Jessica has already fired Rob Shuter, she sent out a statement through him to announce that she did not fire her publicist. "I did not fire Rob Shuter, he is a great publicist and a great friend." Shuter would not comment if he was still working for Jessica or not.
