Jessica Alba Will Speak Spanish To Her Baby

Jessica Alba did an interview with Latina Magazine, and told them she plans to speak only in Spanish to her baby. That's so sweet! But there's only one roadblock. Jess doesn't even speak Spanish herself. She better get on those lessons, or baby Cash is going to come out speaking Spanglish.

This is what she said:

"I wish to God that my dad spoke Spanish to my brother and me, but he didn't grow up with it. Hopefully I can pick it up because I want my kids to speak Spanish. I don't even want them to speak English for maybe the first two to three years, until pre-school. We're in the United States so they're going to learn it anyway."

Does being pregnant make you stupid?

Yes she is pregnant. I've seen about many sites such as (MillMatch.com) about this and I'm just wondering, is anyone else tired of hearing about her? I know I am! She's just a person, like you and me, so what. She got pregnant. Whoop-de-do. Millions of people get pregnant a year. No offense, but who cares?

"I don't even want them to speak English for maybe the first two to three years, until pre-school. We're in the United States so they're going to learn it anyway." I'm a teacher and that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard! (I can't believe I'm 5 years younger than her!) Her kids will be disadvantaged if English is not their first language I(it's great to be bilingual) but you don't just pick it [English] up because you live in the USA). It's very difficult language to acquire and children need rich exposure from BIRTH.

Actually, that last comment is not true. As long as you learn English (or any other language) while you are still a kid, you will be fine. I only spoke German until I was four and I picked it up without a problem. I don't have any sort of a German accent and I'm actually better at English than at German, seeing as I have lived in the U.S. instead of Germany my whole life. I was even in a sixth grade reading class when I was in second grade, so I think it worked out just fine. =)

I agree with the German person. I came to this country when I was 20. I did not know English at the time and started Freshman year at a very strict college in NYC. After graduating, I got a job and now I live here. Never had a problem with the language. It is very easy. My son is speaking English and Spanish at the age of three.

She said she’s hoping for a brown baby. “I’m excited for my baby to be brown. I just have to believe the dark gene is going to survive. Cash and I are like, please.” She already said she doesn’t want a cool baby and wants her child to only speak Spanish at first. This poor fetus already has so much pressure. It’s sitting in her womb, freaking out, writing down: “must be brown, must be nerdy, must speak Spanish or Alba will not love me.”

you people are idiots.. shes latina and wishes she wouldve been raised around it as a latina. whats wrong with wanting her children to know spanish before english.. im mexican american and the youngest of four, and we all started off speaking and understanding only spanish, as soon as we started school we picked it up. a childs mind is a sponge, starting off spanish then picking up english is a blessing... we bilinguals count for two. i think its a great idea.

wow... a language is a REALLY hard thing to learn. how can she immerse her child in spanish if she herself isn't fluent? i'm a spanish is major in college, which means i've studied spanish for years and i still don't speak it 100%. good luck with that one miss alba...
Posted by: cici on 02/22/2008 04:30 PM

she is TOTALLY trying to make up for perez hilton busting her out for not embracing her latina roots... LOL its so obvious its sad (and embarrassing). why do we hold celebrities in such high esteem anyway? its not like they're any smarter than the rest of us....

It's unfortunate that half of you people responding don't get why Ms. Alba's comments sound moronic. Of course there is nothing wrong with immersing your child in another language. Especially if it is part of your heritage. It's a shame that Jessica's dad did not try to pass on language and cultural traditions to his daughter. But she sounds like a frickin' moron even suggesting that her child would only speak Spanish the first few years of their life when SHE CAN'T SPEAK SPANISH HERSELF! I lived in Costa Rica for a year and would not make that proclamation because my Spanish is decent, but not perfectly fluent so how could I teach a child how to communicate with others? Does Cash speak fluent Spanish? Even if he did, both parents should speak the same language that their child does. Jessica shows time and time again that in the brains department, she's nothing more than a gorgeous bubblehead that's meant to be seen and not heard.

Whats wrong with letting the baby learn Spanish first? I speak 4 languages fluently including English.. I only learn English when i started pre-school (well maybe a tad more earlier than that .. i forgot). Furthermore, she's a Spanish. I just don't get whats wrong with you people.. =/

O yea, I missed out something .. she should find a spanish tutor for her kids though. Lol.
Posted by: elena on 03/10/2008 11:37 PM

oh yeah.. now she wants to be known as a latina.. stupid!

I think it's a stupid idea for her to say she will speak Spanish to her baby. This is America. Hispanics are supposed to assimilate like everyone else. If she wants to raise her baby in Spanish, she should move to a Spanish-speaking country.
