Jessica Alba: Marriage is a Load of Crap

February 07, 2010
by:

Jessica Alba has jokingly been nicknamed "MiserAlba" online by bloggers because she always...well...looks miserable. And judging from the interview she just gave to Cosmopolitan magazine, we now why.

Alba, who stars in the upcoming romantic comedy Valentine's Day married husband Cash Warren back in May of 2008, but clearly their relationship isn't peachy keen.

“I had a hard time agreeing with marriage at all because I feel like its been warped,” said Alba told Cosmopolitan magazine. “Originally, it was two families coming together to make a stronger family. It was about survival — not love or soul mates.

“And now the way they market marriage — even as a kid through Disney movies — is that it’s all about Prince Charming sweeping you off your feet.

“There’s this mentality that you need the big dress and the big day — the day every girl gets to be a princess. I didn’t agree with any of that. This tradition of obeying your husband like he’s your king? It’s a load of crap. Love and honor, yes. But you should love and honor yourself too, and all your friends.”

If she's so bitter about marriage, why did she tie the knot in the first place? “I chose to get married because, essentially, you’re given a deck of cards in life,” she said. “The hand you were dealt with is your family and you can’t choose them."

Ouch! What do you think of Jessica's comment about marriage? Tell us your thoughts!

She seems to be dissing her family more than her husband. She could and did choose him. Her family she didnt choose, and I dont kn0w what her family thinks of her, but if it was my family, I dont think they would be too proud of her, for making such a crude, and rude remark....

Another celeb spouting their "Wisdom."LOL what a joke. She is just another celeb who represents the younger generation that is spoiled rotten to the core. They dont want to be told that morals, prinicipals, accountablity, responsibility takes work. They dont want to be bothered with that. What a joke she is and all the others like her.

“The hand you were dealt with is your family and you can’t choose them."? Im not concerned about what she thinks about marriage, I'm concerned about the statement above. How would her family feel?

She is espousing Hollywood take on marriage and having kids. Anything goes for a lot of them. If the spouse goes on location for a show make sure you go with them. There are more marriages that get broken by the distance and the temptation of something better as they think. It usually is not since those relationship fail more times then none. She could have had the word "obey" dropped from the vows that she had taken. It is an archaic term dating back to the time when women were considered property and could not own anything. They went from the father or guardian to the control of the husband along with the property that actually belonged to her since she had no rights to own it in her name. (wait there are countries where the same practice is still in effect)

I think she's right. You spend all this money to act and look like a princess for what? Save the money, buy a house. Then when he dumps you at least you still fit in the house. :)

What she is saying is absolutely true in that the traditional purpose of marriage is no longer relevant, and no man can fulfill the prince charming role we are sold as little girls. Se new book called Marry Him, where the author tells girls to lower their expectations about finding prince charming.

so what, its not big deal to me. celebs are looked at totally different anyway, they're "suppose" to have this big lavish affair, she's saying she's just not into all that, etc!

She was saying she didn't like the whole princess for a day thing and treating one's husband as a king - which is how every other outlet took it. And then you act like she was saying she was upset with her husband? And to top it off, you use a nickname that's founded on straight up sexism (where's Ryan Phillippe's nickname for never smiling for the photographers? He doesn't have one? OH. Must be nice being a guy!) and wow, this article is one of the dumbest things I've read all day. Why not just print "we hate jessica alba. we hate jessica alba. if she said the sky was blue, we'd hate her for that, too" and make it easier on your readers and yourself?
