Shut it down!

Rumors that Season 6 of MTV’s hit “Jersey Shore” was coming to an end can officially be confirmed. MTV has issued a statement that the upcoming season of the reality series will be the final installment in the franchise.

The statement comes a month prior to the season’s premiere for what seems like an extra push of promotional support…

“Although the party will never be over, summers at the ‘Shore’ are officially coming to a close,” the statement reads.

Fans will get a first look at the final trip to Seaside Heights as well as trip down “Shore” memory lane leading up to a September 6 broadcast of MTV’s Video Music Awards.

MTV is cheesing up the sneak peak, calling it a “GTL” retrospective, as in “Gym, Tan, Look Back.”

As Hollyscoop previously reported – two months ago – rumors have been spinning that the show was coming to an end. But, up until now, the network hasn’t confirmed the news.

Ronnie Ortiz-Magro released a statement to Hollyscoop highlighting his disappointment that the series was ending. Still, one positive thing did come out of the “Shore”: His girlfriend Sammi.

“I'm walking away with the girl of my dreams and so many amazing memories,” said Ronnie. “I'm definitely nostalgic but ready to move forward with some exciting things already in the pipeline.”

The reality star’s sentiment was echoed by his fellow cast members Snooki and Pauly D on Twitter.

The network’s decision to end the series and not re-cast, likely comes as a relief for JWoww who, in an interview, told Hollyscoop that the a new cast could only imitate the originals.

“I would go off on MTV [if that happened],” she said on the subject of a new cast. “I would burn down that house.”

No word yet on how cancelling “Shore” will affect the show’s spin-off series…

Even in the sadness of this era of reality television coming to an end, the news of Snooki and Jionni’s new son Lorenzo’s arrival seems to brighten the mood. The birth was recorded and will be featured on an upcoming episode of “Snooki and JWoww.”

Fellow cast members have relayed their congrats to their mama meatball, many of them coming to support the couple during the birth.

While Ronnie won’t be featured on the birthing episode, he is very happy for the couple and thinks Snooki is going to do great as a mother.

“He's in the market for a pair of baby Jordans for baby Lorenzo,” a source close to Ronnie told Hollyscoop. “He hasn't met the baby yet but him and Sammi are planning a visit for next week.”

The sixth and final season of MTV’s “Jersey Shore” premieres Thursday, October 4 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.
