Jenny McCarthy Opens Up About Son's Autism

I literally got goosebumps reading Jenny McCarthy's story about the day she found out her son had autism and the day his heart stopped. Jenny talked to Oprah and People magazine about her experience. Here is some excerpts from her story...

McCarthy and her son were visiting her parents when his eyes rolled to the back of his head and he started foaming at the mouth. “I put my hand on him and I kept saying, ‘Stay with me.’ I felt like he was going. And after a few moments I felt his heart stop.”

When the paramedics finally arrived Jenny recalled "'I think his heart just stopped,’ and they actually looked at me like I was crazy… They casually came walking over, did their tests and confirmed I was right and immediately started CPR. At that very moment… I remember thinking, ‘Why..? Why God, why me..?’ and then I heard this voice: ‘Everything is going to be OK.’”

The local hospital wouldn’t take Evan so they had to drive three hours back to LA to get him the care he needed, all the while Evan suffered from several seizures on the way. Jenny recalls her visit to a neurologist.

“He shut his office door and he sat down and he put his hand on my knee and he said, ‘I’m sorry but your son has autism.’ I didn’t want to believe him but I couldn’t help my instincts saying, ‘This man is right, so listen to what he’s saying.’ I felt like death and he said, ‘Hey, don’t forget this is the same little boy you came in this room with; he’s not any different.’ But I did happen to say, ‘I believe my son is trapped inside, I’m not settling for this… I’m gonna get him out.’ And that started the journey.”

wow that is an extremly scary thing for a mother to go through and im really impressed with her to go on a magazine and tell the story so that she can help other people.

I'd be curious to know if she got him all of his Mercury-laced vaccinations when he was a baby. Mercury causes Autism.

www.generationrescue.org WOW! I want to try this type of therapy myself but more so with my daughter who has been diagnosed with a severe case of ADHD. I highly recommend that websites PROOF of their claims to anyone who deals with Autism or ADHD issues in their children.

I have two sons who have mercury toxicity from vaccines. One has Autism (I had the flu vaccine when I was pregnant with him) and the other has ADHD. Please ask for mercury free vaccines and spread them out over time, don't get 5 for your child in one visit! It is too much for their little bodies. My ASD son had a high fever and cried for 24 hours after receiving his vaccines.

Yep, us too! My son wasn't the same after his shots either. That was many yrs ago, hes now 27. There wasnt anyone to tell, my Dr said oh, hes ok, just give him some tylenol! I felt helpless & thought THEN,, something happened with that vaccine, he became so ill and started HUMMIING with his fever and after his fever broke the hummng NEVER WENT AWAY and he was NEVER THE SAME! Luckily, we became a part of the UCLA brigade and we had lots of therapies over the years, speech, spec ed, sensory intergration & auditory training,spec diets, etc. I wish I could say HES CURED, but that's not the case, but he is a WONDERFUL person and has made amazing progress ! I am so happy to have him in my life, he talks pretty well, & over all does well but he will always be autistic. Funny thing is, he HATES the A word, so we try not to speak of it, he's high funtioning enuf to know he doesnt want to be autistic and doesnt consider himself as such! We live our life and enjoy the time we have together! I am very blessed. He is quite special! But he is home with me on a special community and home based program with attendent care. And he will always need to be protected in this society we live in. That's reality! Its not glamorous or en vouge, it's a lot of hard work and sacrifice! What people really need to do is raise funding for property and apt communites for people with high func young adults with autism! Because there ISNT ANYTHING OUT THERE! So, I hope Jenny is reading this! There has been tons of research for years and just my opinion, there hasnt been a totaly CURE for AUTISM, its been almost 30 years for us living with it and what we have now is an increase in autism, and govt cover up to save the pharmacy companies and not scare people away from vaccines. Its only my opinion that those that say they are cured, may have had severe food/brain allergies, or had lots of money to get round the clock one on one, & even then, I still believe those people still have some autism, they just become high functioning adults like Temple Grandin, she has learned to cope with her issues, as most people do, and grow out of lots of behaviors. Keep in mind, most people dont have the money it takes to keep round the clock help on staff, and schools dont want to pay either for one on one, and education is a battle for anyone with autism unless you have M O N E Y. t I still believe those people with more severe forms of autism can function at their best, or may seem cured, but still have autism, Or maybe they become quirky adults & still different than the norm. I also thot I would be the one to CURE my son & I never gave up! Its a tough battle. I wish Jenny all the best of luck and I hope Jim can go the distance! Reality is, 99 % divorce rate with couples with a disabled child!

Why did the first hospital turn them away? If the boy had stopped breathing, wouldn't it make more sense going to the nearest hospital?

NO - It's not "so sad". There is nothing sad about a wonderful kid like Evan with a wonderful mom like Jenny. YOUR ATTITUDE IS SAD. Clearly, Evan is a JOY to those that know him just as is my "autistic" son to all that know him. There is nothing SAD about a child with autism.

I have twin boys who are 3 yrs and we were just told the boys are autistic. I agree with Jenny about the needles. we live out side of Toronto Canada in a small town and we feel we dont have enough help for them. Doctors suggest sending them to daycare but we dont have the funds and they have to be toliet trained and they are we are trying....we just had another baby 8weeks ago and not the twins dont get as much attention. Jenny talked about the diet she put Evan on no wheat or dariy please someone tell me what to fed my kids bc wheat is in everything. No where does it tell you the foods she bought. ty judy

I love you Jenny. I know you are soooo right and I am so grateful to you for speaking out for all the mothers who have been trying to tell the world what is going on with these kids (my nephew)Age 10. Indiana isn't allot of help. My sister is now a single parent (of course) and I ache to see her struggle like she has been for years. Bless You Jenny!

i think she is such a strong and insperational women. alot of people bad mouth her when she came out with this newest book. i hope those people have stoped and taken a look at the good she's done.

All the best to Jenny, her son and family. You cannot trust the medical establishment, as an establishment they are a business, we are there cattle to be fattened and harvested. Whoever does not believe that needs to do some research. Our kids in the USA are over medicated, including anti-depressant drugs, and the list goes on and on. Eat right, exercise and do whatever you can to build your immune system, that is the most important thing.

hi jenny i feel u very much i saw u on cnn i was very angry at the people who said my son wasnt vaccine poisoned the series of shots he had fucked his brain up, i was so happy 2 c u on cnn. ur a movie star and maybe dont have time for this but im feelin u so my sista and want 2 fight with u big time and my son teacher is letting me read your book. wish i could here from u to tell more on how my son changed thank u wil howray
