After hinting yesterday that she was probably-maybe not returning for another season of “American Idol,” Jennifer Lopez confirmed this morning to Ryan Seacrest on his radio show that she IS indeed leaving the show.
“I was dreading this conversation with you,” Lopez joked, “I can keep doing ‘Idol’ for the rest of my life. But that would mean giving up a lot of other things…but we had an amazing run, I just don’t know if I can be there every single day like we’ve been doing for the past two years.”
When Ryan said that it sounded like she had her mind made up, J.Lo quietly squeaked out, “Yeah.”
Fighting back tears she told Ryan how arriving at her decision to leave “was one of the longest business conversations I’ve ever hard. It’s just really gonna be hard to go.”
J.Lo spent a good 15 minutes talking to Ryan and gushed over how much she “fell in love” with the show.
“When I signed on to do Idol I signed on for one year and I did two because I fell in love with the show and everybody there,” says Lopez, “I always said, 'I never felt so much like a family like I did with Idol.' I never thought I would be so moved emotionally by working on the show and working with the contestants and it was such a lovely surprise in my life.”
Does this mean that J.Lo will never return to the “Idol” stage?
“You don’t want to shut the door completely, but you know the time has come,” says J.Lo.
This frees up the multi-talented superstar to return to her other pursuits like making music and starring in romantic comedies.
Now with J.Lo AND Steven Tyler are out of the judges panel, that leaves Randy Jackson all by his lonesome. Now we’re gonna have to read “Who are the new judges on American Idol” posts for the next six months. Uggghh. Start the rumors now!
