Singer, Dancer, Actor. Back in the day a movie star had to do all three. I'm sure there was a rule in Old Hollywood that if you couldn't sing, act and tap dance then you had to pack up and go home.
I long for the days of Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. But these are the current Hollywood stars that are true triple threats.
Julianne Hough: She proved she can dance with her breakout role as one of the pro ballroom dance partners on Dancing With The Stars, she parlayed that into a film career, appearing as a dancer with a couple lines of dialoque in the Christina Aguilera starring film "Burlesque." Now Hough is a full fledged Hollywood starlet, she's starring in the new Footloose remake. She's also a singer. The former ballroom dancer released her self-titled debut album in 2008 which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Country Album charts.
Justin Timberlake: We knew he could sing. That's what Justin Timberlake is "known" for. However, Justin Timberlake's former choreographer has said that Justin holds his own amongst professional dancers and that he would probably get work as a dancer if he couldn't sing. And if singing and dancing don't work out, he can always be an actor. Oh wait he already did that. "The Social Network," "Friends With Benefits" let me count the ways. He also thinks he's a comedian, so I'm sure JT privately refers to himself as a quadruple threat.
Jennifer Lopez: Singer? Jenny from the block. Duh. Actress? Selena. Maid in Manhattan. Shall We Dance. Dancer? She started off as a VideHo. Before Jennifer Lopez was J.Lo she was a back-up dancer on the TV show "In Living Color." She then started acting and after her acting career started to take off she then considered becoming a pop star. She actually was told while filming "Selena" that she didn't have a good voice; 7 albums later I guess she proved them wrong.
John Travolta: A lot of people forget Travolta is a singer. Obviously, he's a well respected actor, we know this (Well except for that movie "Wild Hogs" but he must have needed the paycheck) but did you know he has a hit single in the 70's called "Let her In"? Well he did. Also, how can anyone forget Travolta's insane dance moves in "Saturday Night Fever" and beautiful singing voice in "Grease." Summer Lovin' had me a blaaaaast.
Hugh Jackman: This guy is the closest thing to a modern day Fred Astaire. Jackman started his career on the stage in Melbourne, Australia. He hosted the Oscars proving he's a real song and dance man. His big breakout role was starring in the musical "Oklahoma!" in London's West End but American audiences know him as Wolverine. However, between film roles he takes time off to do musicals like in 2002 when he starred in the musical "Carousel."
Kevin Bacon: Obviously Kevin Bacon is an actor. He proved his dancing skills in the "angry warehouse dance scene" in Footloose but you probably didn't know he could sing? He and his brother Michael formed a band in 1995 called The Bacon Brothers. I've heard of The Bacon Brothers, but I assumed it was a midwestern fast food chain. The duo has released four albums and have been playing together their entire lives.
Janet Jackson: Janet is known for being a singer and like every good pop star she's supposed to be really good at dancing. However, one of the few popstars that rival Janet's dance skills is her brother Michael. She's also an actress. Nowadays she's been appearing in crappy Tyler Perry films like "Why DId I Get Married?" and "Why Did I Get Married Too?" but back in the day she had recurring roles on shows like "Different Strokes" "Fame" and "Good Times."
Beyonce: I almost left this triple-threat Diva off the list. Singer? obviously. Dancer? have you SEEN the "Single Ladies" video? Actress? Dreamgirls, HELLO! She was even nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in Dreamgirls and once you're nominated for a Golden Globe that's basically a star on the Walk Of Fame.
