The all-star comedy about impeding parenthood got destroyed with a capital “D” at the box office this weekend.
Lionsgate’s debut What to Expect When You’re Expecting took home a total of $10.5 million in earnings. The effort put them behind four other films, including Dark Shadows and – surprise, surprise – The Avengers.
The film follows a cast of parents and parents-to-be played by big names like Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez and Elizabeth Banks in a PG-13 adventure. Their stories are based on the über-popular pregnancy guidebook with the same title. Unfortunately, the audience didn’t transfer over to the comedy film adaptation.
But What to Expect wasn't the only one crashing and burning. There was plenty of horrible news to go around.
Battleship will go into the record books as the worst domestic debut ever for a film with a budget of over $200 mil. The action flick scored $25.3 mil, amazingly under earning the Disney John Carter flop heard ‘round the world at $30.2 mil.
1. The Avengers — $55.1 mil
2. Battleship — $25.3 mil
3. The Dictator — $17.4 mil
4. Dark Shadows — $12.8 mil
5. What to Expect When You’re Expecting — $10.5 mil
The Dictator was the only other top five film premiering from the list.
One good thing that did come out of the weekend were some real babies. And by real babies, we mean babies we generated using a computer.
Hollyscoop took a look at the following couples from the What to Expect cast to see what their bundles of joy might actually look like in real life:
1. J.Lo & Rodrigo Santoro
2. Cameron Diaz & Matthew Morrison
3. Elizabeth Banks & Ben Falcone
4. Brooklyn Decker & Dennis Quaid
Most surprising – in a bad way - was the Diaz-Morrison combo who evidently would produce the first man-baby. Seriously, add a white wig and mustache and this kid could be boring enough looking to run for Congress.
J.Lo and Rodrigo’s baby isn’t too bad, though. Maybe there’s still time to dump Casper and have one more for good measure…
