Fans of ‘The Hunger Games’ have been waiting a long time for March 23. Lionsgate is releasing the movie three weeks from now, but a new teaser clip has just been released.
In the clip, brought to us by Capitol TV, Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence, takes aim with a bow and arrow. It’s a clip that was teased in the original trailer for the movie, but now, fans can get a glimpse of even more of it.
For those unfamiliar, the movie is a dystopian thriller in which children are forced to compete against each other to save their lives. Jennifer Lawrence plays Katniss Everdeen, a teenager who takes the place of her little sister in the Hunger Games.
“Katniss is an incredible character: she’s a hunter but not a killer, a 16-year-old who’s being forced into the arena. These kids are killing one another only because if they don’t, they’ll die,” Lawrence told Vanity Fair. “It’s needless, pointless, unjustified violence. It’s heartbreaking.”
Lawrence adds that when she auditioned, she brazenly gave the director some advice on the artistic direction of the film:
“When I auditioned, I told [director] Gary [Ross], ‘I understand if you don’t hire me, but please remember that after Katniss shoots a bow and kills someone, her face cannot be badass.’ So there’s nothing cool about her. It’s not like she looks around the arena and goes, Yeah, I got this. I think she looks around helplessly, and thinks, I made a promise to my sister that I would survive; now I have to kill in order to do so.”
The Hunger Games opens in theaters March 23, 2012.
