Jennifer Hudson has put on a brave face since the tragic 2008 deaths of her family members.
Jennifer lost three family members on October 24 of that year. Her mother, her 29 year-old brother, Jason Hudson, and seven year-old nephew, Julian King, were all murdered.
Now, William Balfour is scheduled to appear in a Chicago courtroom on April 23 to face counts of murder, aggravated kidnapping and home invasion stemming from those deaths.
Balfour was the estranged husband of Jennifer’s sister, Julia. Prosecutors allege that he stole Jason Hudson’s gun and killed the trio out of jealously because Julia was involved in a new relationship. Jennifer is also now being sought after for questioning regarding her family’s murders.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, defense attorney Amy Thompson is trying to contact the star regarding some text messages that were exchanged with her mom, Darnell Hudson Donerson, around the time of Darnell’s tragic shooting.
RadarOnline is also reporting that Hudson may be called in to the trial as a star witness.
At a hearing on Tuesday, a Chicago police officer said that during the investigation following the murders, someone told authorities that William threatened to kill everyone in the house one or two weeks before the murders took place.
William’s lawyers are arguing that officers didn’t have enough of a “probable cause” to arrest him in the first place. They also attempted to have evidence from the murder scene thrown out for Tuesday’s hearing.
The trial is expected to last two to three weeks, with Judge William Charles Burns presiding.
