Jennifer Hudson has put on a brave face since the tragic 2008 deaths of her family members.

Jennifer lost three family members on October 24 of that year. Her mother, her 29 year-old brother, Jason Hudson, and seven year-old nephew, Julian King, were all murdered.

Now, William Balfour is scheduled to appear in a Chicago courtroom on April 23 to face counts of murder, aggravated kidnapping and home invasion stemming from those deaths.
Earlier this week Jennifer Hudson admitted that she was the first choice to play Precious in the gritty Oscar winning film "Precious," but turned down the role because she was afraid to gain all that weight. "I had gained weight with Effie [her role in "Dreamgirls"] and as much as I was moved by this film, I wanted to try a role that had nothing whatsoever to do with my weight."

So she then went and appeared in the "Sex and The City" movie instead, because that was a great movie! Same caliber as "Precious" and everything!

So anyways, what other actors were "almost" in a movie. Or turned down a role at the last minute?

Will Smith: Will Smith was THIS close to playing Keanu Reeve's part in "The Matrix." You know, I could see "The Matrix" starring Will Smith instead, too bad Will choose the blue pill. Or the red pill? Whichever one is the wrong one, he chose that-ok, this Matrix reference is not working out.

New moms need all the advice they can get: Keep extra diapers on hand, trust your instincts, don’t set your baby down on the roof of your car like a cup of coffee…the list goes on.

At the People’s Choice Awards 2012, Hollyscoop caught up with some red carpet A-listers to talk about the big buzz this week--Beyonce's new baby. And celebs had plenty of advice to share with the new mom.

Alyson Hannigan told Hollyscoop she has one word of advice for Beyonce and Jay-Z:
Was it "don't spoil your kid with a $100,000 nursery?" No, come on. That's crazytalk.

Jennifer Hudson, who is mom to two year-old David Otunga, Jr. has some advice to give her pal, Beyonce.

"Girl, get your sleep!" Hudson said during a press event for Good Housekeeping in New York City on Tuesday.

Well, that sounds easy enough.

Jennifer Hudson, the former American Idol winner who famously lost 80 lbs and transformed her body, says she is so angry when a magazine photoshopped her cover photo to make her look thinner.

The photo was taken before she lost all the weight, but Hudson is furious they didn’t take her talent seriously and had to make her look thinner.

Jennifer Hudson has lost so much weight, she looks nearly unrecognizeable from her former self. If you think I’m exaggerating, just check out those new Weight Watchers commercials where two Jennifer Hudsons are signing to each other. It is both intriguing and slightly creepy.

Hudson graces the cover of Good Housekeeping in February, and in the interview, she discusses her whopping 80-pound weight loss.

“Early on, I remember one of the musical directors telling me that everything about me was too big,” she says.

Gotta love this recession. Jennifer Hudson just put down $2,795,000 for a Chicago home, and the coolest part is, she got it for half the price!

Hudson’s home is 12,000 square feet and three stories tall. Whose home has three stories?! It’s a shopping mall. Built in 2007, the mansion has six bedrooms and seven baths. It’s located in the exclusive Chicago neighborhood of Highland Fields and has two heated garages that hold up to six cars. Heated garages are a necessity. You wouldn’t want your car to get chilly in there at night.

There’s also a deluxe home theater, two laundry rooms, heated floors, and a floating staircase.

In October 2008, Jennifer Hudson went to see her fiancé, David Otunga, fight in a wrestling match. It was a last minute decision, but it was a decision that saved Hudson's life, because she wasn't at her family's Chicago home when her family was murdered.

Hudson lost her mother, Darnell Donerson, 57, her brother, Jason Hudson, 29, along with her seven year-old nephew, Julian King. She told Ebony magazine: "That's one of the things that saved my life. Because I could have been home with my mom then."

The singer explains: "[David] wanted me to come out to Florida with him instead of going to Chicago. I flew out to see him; that's why I'm still here."

It took Jennifer a while to process the realization.

On Monday, the public watched intently as the verdict was read to Dr. Conrad Murray. As it was announced that he was found guilty of the manslaughter of Michael Jackson, a crowd of cheers erupted outside the courthouse. People were ecstatic to see justice get served to someone they've probably never met before.

The public has an intense fascination with celebrity trials. Publicists and the media can manipulate most celebrity events, whether it's a new romance, a paternity suit or a divorce. And most of the time, we're not 100% sure if what we know is real or not. But when we see those stars in court, on trial, there's no denying the reality of what they're dealing with. The facts are there, the law is involved, and we see those celebs humanized. They go from characters on the covers of magazines to real citizens at the mercy of the judicial system. So we're rounding up the top five celebrity trials of the century.

5. The Jennifer Hudson Family Murders: When Jennifer Hudson won an Academy Award, she was on top of the world. Unfortunately, that came crashing down in 2008, when the bodies of her mother and brother were found murdered in the family's Chicago home. Darnell Donerson and Jason Hudson were both shot to death. Three days after they were found, the body of Hudson's 7 year-old nephew was found in a SUV on the West Side. William Balfour, Jennifer's brother-in-law, became the prime suspect on December 2008. He plead not guilty. A month later, he was charged with first-degree murder and home invasion.

In Hollywood, it’s rarely the case that less is more. But when it comes to weight, it’s no secret—celebs don’t seem to think bigger is better.

Stars are always fighting in the Hollywood Weight War, and who can blame them? Having every bump and bulge in the spotlight is enough to make you want to put on a pair of Sketchers Shape-Ups and burn every last calorie in your body.

Ok, we would never wear Sketchers Shape-Ups, but there’s definitely a ton of pressure to stay slim when everyone talks about your weight gain.

But all that talk equals publicity, and most publicity is good publicity (We won’t say all publicity because here’s hoping Chris Brown’s career gets shot into oblivion). So, if it gets a buzz going, is being fat necessarily that bad in Hollywood? Is it possible that expanding past a size 2 may actually be healthy for one’s career?

One of Oprah’s favorite topics is her (and others’) fluctuating weight. She’s gained and lost more than the NASDAQ, and the public loves her for this. She might be a multi-billionaire, but in the weight arena, women can relate to her struggle. Her audience connects with her, and as a result, she has the highest rated talk show in history.

According to statistics, the average weight for Americans aged 20-69 is 132 pounds. That is not a size 2, which is probably average for Hollywood. Look at all the sympathy votes Jessica Simpson got when she put on a few pounds and the media touted her as an overindulgent fat-ass. It was insulting, sure, but she went from near obscurity to back in the limelight, all because she packed on the weight. Not only did people defend her, they could relate to her as well. So when she started her own clothing and accessory line, she had already garnered the public’s empathy, and she did awesomely in her new endeavor. Who wants to buy 3” stilettos from some skinny bitch who only has to carry around 90 lbs?

After being surprisingly light on her feet on Dancing with the Stars, Kirstie Alley still got flack for being what Hollywood deems obese. The woman is sixty years old! She’s really not that big, and even if she is, she’s spent her whole life under the scrutiny of Hollywood—she deserves a cheeseburger. But I doubt this generation would even know who she is if not for the constant “controversy” with weight. Recently, after George Lopez cleverly (#sarcasm) compared her to a pig, Alley got shoved into the public eye even more. Now is a perfect time for a company like, say Spanx, to enter.

Jennifer Hudson also made headlines with her dramatic weight loss through WeightWatchers. We’re not denying the fact that she’s a talented, Oscar-winning actress and singer, but the attention and endorsements over her weight certainly aren’t hurting her career!

Another Oscar winner, Kate Winslet, recently told Glamour that she was often bullied for being chubby: "When I was heavy, people would say to me -- and it was such a backhanded compliment -- they would say, 'You've got such a beautiful face,' in the way of, like, 'Oh, isn't it a shame that from the neck down you're questionable.”

Well, Kate’s “questionable” body harvested a lot of attention, making her a household name and an icon for “regular-sized” women everywhere.

And what has Kelly Osbourne been in headlines for more than her weight loss? Recently, it might be her hosting duties on E! Fashion Police, but who knows if she would’ve gotten the gig without all the attention on her shape-shifting body? The 5’2 Osbourne said she was weighed “almost 160 pounds” but lost 42 of them. And she’s rockin’ it. Because along with her newfound E! fame, she’s also the covergirl for Madonna’s daughter’s fashion line, Material Girl.

In the end, the attention these stars get from discussing their weight only makes the public favor them more. The publicity in that arena seems to make people care even more about their movies, projects, and products. Osbourne once said she “took more hell for being fat than [she] did for being an absolute raging drug addict.” That leaves us wondering, which is better for a star’s career: weight gain, rehab, or a sex tape?
