Beyonce announced she was pregnant with Jay-Z's baby in the most entertaining way possible—a performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. And while we're all excited about the hip-hop mogul's offspring, it turns out this might not be his first baby.
Jay-Z reportedly impregnated Trinidadian model Shenelle Scott nine years ago. Shenelle originally thought her then-boyfriend, Malik Sayeed, was the father of the child.
Most of this information comes from an interview with Malik's father, according to RadarOnline.
"At he time [he] was born, my son Malik thought he was his child, but they did DNA tests. It’s been determined that [the child is] Jay-Z’s baby," Jerald Andrews says.
Another source says that while Beyonce was originally pissed about the situation, she decided to stick by Jay-Z's side. Malik's name is listed as father on the child's birth certificate, despite the alleged DNA tests.
"Malik threw [Shenelle] a baby shower and bought all this stuff to prepare for the arrival,” the source continued. “However, after the baby was born, friends and family told him he needed to get a DNA."
I'd insert a 99 Problems joke here, but I think you can put that one together yourself.
"Everyone knew she was sleeping around and sleeping with Jay," the source said. "There was a good chance it was his.”
So the kid's not so much a love child as it is a "one-of-the-guys-I-was-sleeping- around with-child." Andrews continues:
"Maybe two weeks later, [Malik] called me and said, ‘Daddy, I got some bad news. [He’s] not my son,’. I said, ‘How do you know, Malik?’ He said, ‘He doesn’t look anything like me!’”
Radar says the kid looks just like Jay-Z, but to be fair, pretty much every baby looks like Jay-Z: wide-eyed and bald.
“Shenelle told me that Jay-Z gave her $1 million to keep her mouth shut,” Andrews says. “My understanding is that he’s paying her child support. Shenelle took the money and bought herself a really nice house in Trinidad that the whole family lives in now."
And apparently, Jay-Z isn't a bad dad. Well, aside from paying the kid's mom a million bucks to deny his existence.
"[Shenelle] says he’s a good father and he has a lot of interest in [the boy]," Andrews said. "It was a big old mess at one time, but I think once they resolved the issue of fatherhood, of paternity, I think things started to level off.”
