Wake up, coffee, human ear in the mail... Just a typical day for Jared Leto.
The celeb, who splits his time between starring on screen and rocking out with 30 Seconds To Mars, has opened up about a recent and bizarre postal fan encounter. An avid admirer, he said, cut off their ear and sent it to him in the mail.
Leto gave an interview to Phil Clifton of the UK’s Xfm, where he conveyed the intensity of his followers.
“The fans are an incredibly committed and passionate group of people,” he said. “Going to a show is kind of like visiting Japan, you expect gifts on your arrival. You get all kinds of wonderful things."
On the subject of weirdest things that fans have sent him, Leto recollected the ear incident…
Leto: Someone cut their ear off once and sent it to me, that was very strange.
Clifton: A whole ear?
Leto: The Van Gogh move. The note just said, are you listening? And I never knew who it was, who's missing their ear out there … I poked a hole in it and wore it as a necklace!”
As unbelievable as it sounds, the proof of this story truly appears to be in the pudding. Leto posted a red and bloodied picture of the ear necklace on Instagram on Monday.
“ARE YOU LISTENING?” he captioned the gory shot.
And, while Leto could possibly see the humor and flattery in the follower's actions, he urged other fans: “Just don't put your entire body in a case and send it to us.”
