Tony Soprano :(
Hollywood, and the world, is still reeling from the news that James Gandolfini died suddenly while vacationing in Italy at the young age of just 51 years old.
Not even 24 hours later, more details are emerging regarding the tragic news, beginning with emergency circumstances. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital in Rome after the actor went into cardiac arrest. James was pronounced dead less than an hour later.
His 13-year-old son Michael was with James on the trip, where the actor was expected to attend the Taormina Film Festival in Sicily and accept a special award.
Around 10 p.m. local time, Michael called the reception desk at the Hotel Exedra for help after his father had collapsed in their suite's bathroom. An ambulance was immediately sent and doctors tried to resuscitate him, but were unsuccessful. An autopsy is set for tomorrow, within 24 hours after the death occurred, in accordance with Italian law.
James’ talent didn’t go unnoticed by his peers. Stars across the entertainment industry continue to react to this great loss in their community.
Within his extensive career, he'll be remembered best for his lead role as the complex mob boss in The Sopranos. Of his legacy, Lacey Rose of The Hollywood Reporter expressed it best, writing Gandolfini "changed the face of cable TV as a whole. There wouldn't be a Walter White or a Don Draper without Tony Soprano."
Many are sharing his “Inside the Actor’s Studio” interview, an inspiring look at the craft he devoted his entire life to.
