One on One with a Master Of Champions

I remember when I was a little girl, I would sit in front of the TV screen and dream to be in the skates of Olympic Gold medalist Oksana Baiul. I would try to “ice skate” in my parent’s home living room, emulating all jumps. Although my attempts would all fail as I would fall flat on my face with the consequences of many carpet burns.

Today, I got an opportunity of a lifetime, to interview a figure skating icon Oksana Baiul. Even though I never practiced ice skating, I had an obsession with it, along with the rest of the world. Walking into my interview I began to ponder, what had this world known figure skater been doing since her famous Olympic Gold medal victory at the age of 16? Obviously a whole lot, with the participation in many figure skating tours and competitions around the country, including Champions on Ice, Stars on Ice and the list goes on. Not to mention her life story depicted on the TV screen, two published books and her own figure skating apparel line called the Oksana Baiul Collection. Recently she has been featured on ABC’s TV show Master Of Champions, where each week six competitors with some of the world's most unique talents face off to determine who is the best of the best.

Ironically, Oksana who has competed all her life in front of judges is now taking on the role as a judge. When I asked her the difference between skating and being on TV Oksana replied: “In skating, you train six or seven months for those 4 minutes, either you jump or you will skate next year. In television it’s different, if you make a mistake its ok, you will get another chance tomorrow. I like television because its fun and I get a chance to show my personality.

Speaking of personality, when you meet this Russian beauty, there is no doubt that you will fall in love with her outgoing personality. She is full of life and energy and is extremely sweet and humble. What you see is what you get, no facades, no drama and her life is an open book.

Despite her success, Oksana did mention to me about the downsides of her life. At age ten, her grandmother died and three years later Oksana’s mother died from ovarian cancer. Oksana’s parents split from an early age and she never knew her father. Eight years ago, Oksana got into a car accident due to drunk driving and had to go to rehab. Oksana said: “My life had been changed dramatically a couple of times, with my mom’s death, moving to Odessa where I met my coach who took me to the Olympics, and after came to America. After my car crash, I had to change my lifestyle, had to change my friends. I am famous for changing my life completely and dramatically and I am ok with it, I will survive”.

Listening to her life story, you do understand that Oksana is truly a survivor. There is definitely no time to loose with this world champion. In September she is off to South Korea and in October off to Torino, Italy where she will perform. When I asked her about her success Oksana replied: “I am a happy person because I make money doing what I like, not many people can do that, I can’t be locked in the office and work from 9 to 5.”

Although Oksana is content with her success she is still in search for her soul mate. Oksana confessed that she is single and is ready to mingle. When I asked her what her ideal type of guys was she replied: “My type ranges from Nick Carter to Howard Stern. It’s not all about the looks, I need to be able to hold a conversation”. In the mean time, Oksana is busy working away, in August fans can download sexy Oksana wallpapers, screen savers and ring tones to their cell phones from FeedMyPhone.com. What is interesting is that Oksana never fails to reinvent herself. She admits that her new advertisement is provocative but it’s a step forward for the next level of her career. “I am not 16 anymore and I hope my fans will get a chance to see me not only as a figure skater but as something else. ” To get more information about this skating star log on to WWW.oksanastyle.com.
