'Ice Age' Takes Over The Box Office

Ice Age: Continental Drift freezes out the competition at the box office this weekend with some help from the hip-hop artists who joined the cast.

The numbers are in, and the not-Pixar animated feature, the fourth in the franchise had a huge opening weekend at the domestic box office earning $46 million dollars.

The runners up include The Amazing Spider Man with a second weekend tally of $35 million, Ted at $22.2 million, and Brave (this one is Pixar) nailed fourth place with $10.7 million.

So, in case you don’t have kids or an affection for 3-D animated Paleolithical mammals, I’ll sum it up for you: high jinx ensues for a fun loving band of prehistoric animals trying to make good in an ever changing world….

Or something like that, I think that pretty much explains all the movies, but I don’t really know. I don’t have kids.

If you want something more specific IMDB offers up, “Manny, Diego, and Sid embark upon another adventure after their continent is set adrift. Using an iceberg as a ship, they encounter sea creatures and battle pirates as they explore a new world.”

Celebrity voices contributing to this installment include:
Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Queen Latifah, Seann William Scott, AND (get this) Jennifer Lopez, Drake and Nicki Minaj!

J.Lo, a mom, has obvious motivations for stepping to the mic, but Drake and Nicki? That’s a total non-sequitur, right?

Or maybe not?

Seriously, think of the possibilities of a total hip-hop take over of animation?

Do you guys think that maybe “Lil’” Wayne has been gearing up for his own animated children’s series this whole time?
