I Am Legend

Will Smith's career is full steam ahead! He's just mentioned the fact that he has full intentions of doing sequels to both Hancock and I Am Legend. If you saw I Am Legend, you know that his character dies at the end of the film, so a sequel doesn't seem possible. But Will insists it's a possibility, along with a prequel to the film as well.

He says, "We have a fantastic prequel idea…we're still trying to work through a couple of bumps in the story. It's essentially the fall of the last city – the last stand of Manhattan. The movie would be…within the body of the movie D.C. and then Manhattan would fall as the last city. It's a really cool idea trying to figure it out…there's a reason why we have to take a small band and we have to get into D.C. So we have to make our way from New York to D.C. and then back to New York."

As for Hancock, Will has talked about a sequel happening in the near future. A source tells The New York Post, "He is ready to do both. Producers are just trying to get Charlize Theron to sign on for the Hancock sequel."

Sequels are all the rage in Hollywood right now, with studios just looking to cash in for as long as possible on certain movie brands. But do you think sequels for Hancock and I Am Legend are a good idea? Will Smith could really do no wrong when it comes to making movies. He brings in an audience regardless of what kind of movie he makes.
Am I Legend director Francis Lawrence has confirmed he's working on a prequel to his box office hit I Am Legend. Will Smith will be returning to revive his character of Dr. Robert Neville. Lawrence says, "Absolutely, we're actually trying to crack that. We're trying to figure out some ideas for it, but yes, it would be a prequel."

But he says this time around will be a much easier feat than the first time around, because they won't have to shut down huge areas of NYC for scenes. He says, "The first time you go out there and shut down 6th Avenue, it's like, 'How are we going to do this day after day after day?' But by the end, it's just like you know how to do it.

"You got the PA's who know how to shut it down, how to let the traffic through in between set-ups and you just sort of get the routine down, so that's not the issue."

Sure, the production people got it down, but that makes for a whole lot of pissed-off New Yorkers! Traffic is bad enough in that city as it is!

Will Smith will be reviving his role as Dr. Robert Neville for a prequel to I Am Legend, which has been confirmed by director Francis Lawrence.

He's already working on a follow-up to the movie, but there are major obstacles to conquer before it comes to fruition.

The first hurdle is the story line, which Lawrence is coming up with now, and the next is the major New York City scenes. The crew will have to block off huge areas of NYC for the film, which didn't go over well the first time. You know how New Yorkers can be!

But lucky for the director, he has his pea-ons that will help make sure it goes off without a hitch!

He says, "The first time you go out there and shut down 6th Avenue, it's like, 'How are we going to do this day after day after day?' But by the end, it's just like you know how to do it. You got the PAs who know how to shut it down, how to let the traffic through in between set-ups and you just sort of get the routine down, so that's not the issue."

Disney has a lot to celebrate this holiday weekend as their sequel "National Treasure: Book of Secrets" brought in an estimated $45.5 million from 3,832 theaters.

The original "National Treasure" debuted at $35.1 million over Thanksgiving weekend in 2004. "I Am Legend" lost its spot to No.2 and "Alvin and the Chipmunks" came in at No. 3. Who will take the No.1 spot this New Years weekend? From the looks of things we have a feeling Mickey Mouse might be taking on the lead.

Francis Lawrence directing his first film since 2005’s Constantine comes up with something special for I Am Legend. New York City, 2012 is visually stunning. The way in which Lawrence creates a world after an infection hits and destroys all of the world’s population, except for a sole survivor is breathtaking. Writers Akiva Goldsman, (who is behind such greats as, The Client, Batman Forever, A Time To Kill, A Beautiful Mind, I Robot, Cinderella Man, and The Da Vinci Code) teams up with screenwriter Mark Protesevish (The Cell, Poseidon) to make an eerie, suspenseful, dreadful, thriller, where Will Smith plays to perfection, yet again.

I Am Legend, based on the classic horror novel by writer Richard Matheson, stars Will Smith (The Pursuit Of Happyness, I Robot, Hitch, Independence Day, Bad Boys I and II) as Robert Neville, a brilliant scientist who is immune to the man-made, incurable, unstoppable infection that has plagued the world, leaving him as the only survivor on earth. Neville himself can not cure the virus no matter how in depth his procedures are, causing him to walk the streets of New York with only his trustworthy German Shepherd Sam for support. Daily, when the sun is highest in the sky, Neville broadcasts radio messages on all AM radio frequencies desperately looking for another survivor -anywhere in the world- that is immune to the infection like he is. After three years of searching, Neville figures no one is out there. However, the one thing that Robert Neville is sure of is, even though he is the last man of earth, he is not alone. In the darkness lie the infected. The infected mutants that used to be human populate the shadows, the alleys, and every other dark corner in New York City. Outnumbered, physically outmatched, and nearly out of time, Neville is mankind’s last hope to find the cure, and reverse the effects of the infection.

The first hour of this movie is not only astonishing, it is freaky. The loneliness that is slowly setting on Will Smith’s character begins to set on the audience (well, as least it did for me). His desire to be the one who saves the world is compelling. Knowing that he is the last hope of humanity drives him to do all in his power to accomplish that goal. The playful banter he exchanges with his trusty Shepherd Sam is hilarious and impressing. Also, as the days drag on, he slowly begins having full conversations with the mannequins that he has properly placed for the following day. All of these little additions into the story are priceless. These are not for comic relief –as funny as they sometimes are- they are more to show the audience how the loneliness has taken its toll on Neville and now there is no going back. As sad as it is for me to say, near the ends of the film, the story gets too into itself, causing it to slowly but surely fall apart. Leaving us with just another average thriller, instead of what could have been.

Will Smith’s latest film ‘I AM LEGEND’ is unable to show its full potential considering the fact that it was banned from China, hence the box office hit.

Smith says, "We struggled very, very hard to try to get it to work out, but there are only a certain amount of foreign films that are allowed in."

Despite Smith campaigning to get the movie in, China is sticking to its policy of capping the amount of Hollywood movies shown in their country in order to boost their own countries film industry.
