My mom always told me not to rush to get married, and I guess Hugh Hefner is taking the same advice. The 85 year old was all set to marry Crystal Harris five days from now, but Harris has since called off the wedding.
“The wedding is off,” Heff tweeted. “Crystal has had a change of heart.” Harris’ manager told E! News the breakup was “amicable.”
Judging by Heff’s depressing tweet, I’m not so sure. But take solace, Hugh, there are plenty of other celebs that have broken off their engagements and bounced back beautifully.
Jennifer Love Hewitt & Ross McCall: Ross popped the question to Jennifer back in 2007, but the couple split due to Hewitt’s “neediness”. She already has the ring picked out, now all she needs is the man.
Nick Cannon & Selita Ebanks: Before there was Mariah, there was Selita. Selita was engaged to Nick for five months in 2007, but the couple took a break to “focus on their careers”. They only knew each other for six weeks before getting engaged, but Nick and Mariah’s romance was a whirlwind one, too, and it’s worked out just fine.
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez: The six-carat pink engagement ring was beautiful, but the split? Not so much. They were an odd couple, and sometimes that works. But in this case, it didn’t. Ben called the wedding off just hours before the ceremony.
Lance Armstrong & Sheryl Crow: They were the It couple of 2005, but a year after their engagement, the couple broke it off. In his biography, Lance cited Sheryl’s biological clock as the reason for the split. She apparently wanted to have kids and he wasn’t ready. A year later, Sheryl adopted.
Julia Roberts & Kiefer Sutherland: When she was 24, Roberts broke off her engagement to actor Kiefer Sutherland. They had a huge, A-list wedding planned, but in the end, it wasn’t meant to be. Sutherland said, “There was a huge connection between us but…it was more like friends than the passionate relationship that she or I would have wanted. She saw that; I did not.”
Gwyneth Paltrow & Brad Pitt: Back in the 90s, Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow shared more than looks. They also had marriage plans. But their two and a half year romance ended abruptly, with Brad reportedly being “commitment shy”. Times have changed.
Katie Holmes & Chris Klein: I can barely remember a time when Katie Holmes was allowed to make her own decision and seemed to have some life behind her eyes. Holmes was engaged to Klein in 2005 before dating him for five years. A month after the split, Katie was spotted out with Tom Cruise.
