American icon Hugh Hefner was born on April 9, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from college in 1949, Hugh founded Playboy magazine in 1953. The first issue featured Marilyn Monroe on the cover. The magazine sold over 7 million copies in 1972.
Hugh moved into the Playboy Mansion in 1971 for about $1.05 million. Hefner has been married twice and has four children. Playboy celebrated its' 50th anniversary in 2004. It remains the best selling men's magazine in the country. Hefner currently stars on the E! series The Girls Next Door with his three live-in girlfriends.
