House

If you’re not watching the show House yet, you may want to start tuning in, or rent it on Netflix. Everyone else is doing it! And when we say everyone, we mean everyone!

House has just been named the most popular show in the entire world! The one-hour drama starring Hugh Laurie as the unconventional Dr. Gregory House, has become the most-watched fictional show on television.

Eurodata TV Worldwide conducted the study, showing that the show brought in over 81.8 million viewers last year. That was far more than the 2007 and 2006 winners in the same TV drama category, CSI: Las Vegas and CSI: Miami.

The agency bases its figures on data collected in 66 countries from Austria to Georgia to Norway to the United States that represent a potential audience of 1.6 billion television watchers.

In the comedy category, Desperate Housewives won for the second year in a row, beating Monk and Ugly Betty with 65.3 million viewers worldwide in 2008. The Bold and the Beautiful was the most popular soap for the second consecutive year with 24.5 million viewers.

Notice how all of the shows that won were American! And people say TV is going down the tube!

From one house to another. House star Kal Penn is leaving his hit TV show for a job at the White House to work for President Barack Obama!

Monday night's House had a shocking twist with Lawrence Kutner offing himself. And now we know why!

"I got to know the President and some of the staff during the campaign and had expressed interest in working there, so I'm going to be the associate director in the White House office of public liaison," he tells Entertainment Weekly.

"They do outreach with the American public and with different organizations. They're basically the front door of the White House. They take out all of the red tape that falls between the general public and the White House."

We couldn't think of a better reason to leave a hit show! Sounds like Kal has a promising career ahead, as long as he doesn't steer off course to go find The White Castle.

House @ 8 pm
Okay, bromance fans, you had quite a House-Wilson doozy last week, and expect further developments tonight, when Lucas returns to snoop on Wilson. But the main focus is on Thirteen's romantic life: She has a one-night stand, and with a lady, no less. But Thirteen's inamorata might not be interested only in her. And then (how conveniently!) she suddenly comes down with a deadly disease that only you-know-who can figure out.

Fringe @ 9pm
Phenomenon of the week story includes the reappearance of a missing woman with a rare disease puts everyone she meets in jeopardy and coincides with detections of dangerous radiation levels, raising suspicions of a link to illegal drug trials involving humans.

The Mentalist @ 9pm
It doesn't take Patrick Jane's rare gift for observation to realize that when a wealthy banker is murdered and it's discovered he was skimming millions from clients, that his death was probably at the hand of a vengeful client. Where Jane's real talents are used is in the mental game he plays with possible suspects to see if one will reveal a secret.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit @10 pm
Last week we finally got to meet Stabler's mother. This week we meet his old Marine mentor, Dick Finley (James Brolin), who eventually left the corps and became a NASA astronaut. When the body of a famous female astronaut is found in Battery Park, Benson and Stabler investigate, but hit a dead end. So they turn to her former NASA colleague Dick for help, giving Stabler a chance to work with his old friend.

Eli Stone @10pm
Well, God, Sigourney Weaver or whomever certainly works in mysterious ways. Now that the hallucinations — and the aneurysm — have ping-ponged back to the original Stone brother, Eli, it looks like this show will resume the charming, whimsical nature that made the first season so enjoyable. And it doesn't hurt when you can snag a headline-grabbing guest star such as Katie Holmes, playing a woman who sings to Eli in one of his visions, but later meets him for real at a baseball game.
Eli Stone @ 10pm
C'mon, you knew Eli's eyes would open at the end of last season, didn't you? Of course, what kind of condition he's in remains to be seen, though Nate said the aneurysm was gone and, in tonight's second season premiere, so are Eli's visions — at least for the last six months. But that doesn't mean the series is free of hallucinations, because now they're happening to Eli's brother. They just might come in handy, too, when Jordan is trapped in a building after a crane accident and Nate thinks he knows where he is. Sigourney Weaver guest stars.

House @ 8pm
Diane Baker and R. Lee Ermey return as House's parents but, sad to say, it'll be a swan song for Ermey because House's dad dies. House's chief emotion, you won't be surprised to learn, won't be simple grief. Still, he does attend the funeral, so that means he must phone in his diagnosis for this week's dying person: a Chinese-American adoptee who falls ill in China while searching for her birth parents. There's also a House-Wilson development of sorts tonight: We'll learn how the two met.

Biggest Loser: Families @ 8pm
As Halloween quickly approaches and scary movies hit the airwaves, viewers will no doubt rediscover what horrors the dark can conceal. The contestants on the Biggest Loser ranch are about to find out firsthand when they face a temptation challenge in the dark. They are presented with a variety of sinfully sweet treats before the lights go out. Will someone fall like a screaming teenager in the woods to calorie carnage?

Fringe @ 9pm
Put aside, for a moment, Olivia's encounter last week with a presumed-dead Agent Scott as a science-fiction trompe l'oeil, and focus instead on the bird-brained ideas of Dr. Bishop. Is that a dismissal of his unconventional contributions thus far? Not in the least. In fact, it's more of a celebration of his eccentric methods, and tonight they involve the use of homing pigeons when there are deadly consequences to a man's unusual ability to harness electricity.
House @ 8pm
As the fifth season opens, it has been eight weeks since Amber's death and Wilson is still in quite the funk. Just back from bereavement leave, he announces that he's leaving Princeton-Plainsboro for good. Not surprisingly, House's reaction to the news is the elephant in the room for the entire episode. In fact, tonight's medical challenge (a 37-year-old workaholic assistant to a hard-charging feminist leader) is just background noise to him — until he notices that Thirteen is getting emotionally involved the case.

90210 @ 8pm
Could you really call the show 90210 if Brenda and Kelly didn't have a spat over a guy? This time around the gal pals disagree about Kelly's friendship with fellow West Beverly staff member Ryan. But wait, didn't Brenda encourage Kelly to go out with Ryan in the first place? Hmm. Over at the Wilsons, Dixon recognizes the strain a Beverly Hills lifestyle can have on the wallet and decides to get work at the Peach Pit. Such a good kid, that Dixon.

Lincoln Heights @ 8pm
As the drama returns for its third season, violence once again enters the lives of the Sutton family, this time coming directly into their home. While Eddie and Jenn are away, there's a break-in at their house. The place isn't empty though — Cassie is there with boyfriend Charles. The two of them try to hide, but the thugs eventually find them, and things escalate to the point where Cassie and Charles are held hostage during a police standoff.

Big Brother 10 @ 9pm
A Renegade will be the champion of the series' 10th edition, but will it be Dan or Memphis? The dynamic duo executed their winning plan to perfection when they evicted 75-year-old Jerry last week. Now, after 71 days of confinement, one will walk away with $500,000 and the other with $50,000. Also, viewers award $25,000 to their favorite juror. Do you think it just might be Jerry?

And we thought it was crazy when Matthew Fox starting making a quarter million per episode!

Hugh Laurie, who stars as Dr. House on the hit show, is getting a pretty significant raise in pay.  He'll now be making $400,000 an episode, which equals more than $9 million per year.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation leading man William Petersen, who is leaving the show, currently tops the list of the highest paid actors on a drama series, earning $600,000 per episode.

24's Kiefer Sutherland nets close to $500,000. Both are executive producers on their series. Do you think these guys are overpaid?
Greek @ 8pm
Determined to move on after their recent failed relationships, Rusty and Casey take action: Rusty enlists Dale to help him get a date, and Casey comes to terms with her split from Evan when a majority of her Zeta sisters want to reunite with the Omegas.

Samantha Who? @ 9:30pm
Sam asks a complete stranger named Craig to Todd's photo gallery show in order to prove to Todd that she's over him. But is Craig as much of a stranger as Sam thinks he is? Meanwhile, one of Todd's photos on display is a shot of Sam.

Bones @ 8pm
A baby boy is discovered at the scene of his mother's murder. While the Jeffersonian team carries out the investigation, the maternally challenged Brennan cares for the child.

House @ 9pm
House suspects that an ER patient with a sunny disposition has a bigger problem than was initially diagnosed. The reason: He thinks the patient is too nice. Meanwhile, House and Amber (Anne Dudek) spar over face time with Wilson; and Cuddy demands House give his team performance reviews.

Slowly but surely, all of our favorite shows are coming back on the air. Fox just announced the return of their shows to make comebacks since the strike, including House, Bones, Back To You, Til Death, 24, The Simpsons, Family Guy, and American Dad.

All of the mentioned shows will make their returns in April, except 24, which will return next January. Shows that may have not made the cut are K-Ville, The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Prison Break, and King of the Hill.

Real Housewives Confess: A Watch What Happens Reunion @ 10pm
Are things OK in the O.C.? We'll find out tonight when the housewives reassemble for a postseason reunion, featuring updated interviews and a fine rehashing of the good, the bad and the ugly of the recently completed third season. On the docket: the scoop on Lauri's married life and the sudsy reality show's impact on new housewives Tamra and Quinn. And what about Jo? We get a progress report on the popular girl gone wild and learn the reasons why she didn't participate in Season 3. Bravo's Andy Cohen hosts.

House @ 9pm
Cuddly Greg is back, and he has his three new playmates with him. As you might recall from the last episode (two months ago), House finally picked Taub and Kutner, and Cuddy made him hire Thirteen, so the new team's in place. Their first case: a woman who won't — or can't — tell the docs where it hurts even though she's dying. This is the first of three new episodes the producers have left; a post-Super Bowl special on Sunday and next Tuesday's are the other two. To show just how much the strike has messed things up, tonight's show is the Christmas episode.

One Tree Hill @ 9pm
Ever wonder what happened to Lucas, Nathan and their pals during those missing college years we didn't get to see? Well wonder no more. Tonight some present-day scenes bookend flashbacks, providing a glimpse into events that occurred three years ago. Coach Whitey makes an appearance and a basketball game is played, making it feel like old times. Plus, some questions get answered regarding Lucas and that engagement ring.

Nip/Tuck @ 9pm
After her duplicity with Julia (and about 78,000 other things), Gina was due for another fall, and on this show the producers don't fool around, do they? Tonight we'll see how Christian copes with the fallout from her sudden death. Our guess is that he'll bounce back, though his romance (if that's the word for it) with Julia can't have much life left, can it? Meanwhile, Sean's brassy new talent agent, Colleen, showed last week that she's no good at taking no for an answer, but look for her to get more practice tonight.

NOOOO!!! Not the Bitch! I was into her WASPy character, right down to that Marcia Brady hair. We all knew the firings were coming but I honestly thought that he was going to keep all four.

Last night's action revolved around a heroin-addicted, hard-living, Scott Weiland-y musician with a heart of gold who volunteers with runaways. The team argues back and forth about whether his steady decline in health is a result of his drug addiction or some hidden ailment. (It turns out to be measles in his brain, which was my first guess all along.) On what might have been his death bed, Bitch and the musician have a heart-to-heart about regret and life and it is revealed that it is the drug addict, not the win-at-all-costs successful blond doctor, who knows the real secret to living life to the fullest.

I predict that in a few episodes, we'll see the return of Bitch as a patient, addicted to heroin and loving life.
