If you are ever traveled to New York City during the summer, you will notice that the streets are empty. In the summer, most New Yorkers take off for some play time in either the Hamptons or Jersey Shore. We made a call to our “Jersey Shore” correspondent Alex to bring us the scoop.
"Jersey shore is by far the greatest place to go out. Nothing can compare to the thousands of fist pumping “guidos” who travel to the shore for the weekend. Most of the people rent houses and the festivities go on 24/hr a day.
One of the top places to party on a Friday night is called Surf Club. The bar is based right on the beach and they usually bring in live bands to play. Everyone gets trashed then at 2 am it’s to leave and go to the magical land called “Seaside Heights’, the only town in NJ where bars are open until 4am, and if you know people, 5am. Seaside is a guido’s Disneyland. The main 3 clubs are Bamboo, Merge and Club XS.
The second you walk into any of these 3 clubs, your chest is beating so hard from the music that you think you’re having a heart attack. On the dance floor, club-goers are battling one another and the girls are in their shortest dresses, draped in gold and fake tits and are bobbing their heads in unison to Cascada’s ‘Every time we Touch’. Their names are usually Marie, Gianna, and Lisa. When leaving the club of choice at 4am, everyone goes to Steaks Unlimited for some cheese steaks and cheese balls.
On a Saturday night Manasquan hits the spot. Here, you will find an array of pastel colored polos, the entire East Coast College Greek system, and chics who won’t give you the time of day unless you tell them which investment bank on Wall Street you work at or where in Hoboken you live. Manasquan is a very tribal place, and the regulars stick religiously to their bar choice for both Friday and Saturday nights. Osprey is another club which has been the stopping grounds of famous musicians for over 30 years. Osprey was the best of both worlds. You have a large room where live bands play so the pastel polos can go and try to dance to “pour some sugar on me’ and the rest of the bar is dark with house music pumping out of the speakers. After a few laps around the circular bar, we felt the need to go to Belmar.
Bar A was our first stop of the evening. Getting into Bar A was like trying to get into Fort Knox. Bar A is like a giant backyard party at your rich friend’s house. You have several bars set up, people playing volleyball and an inside dance floor where you can go and hang out. Music was top 40 hits, but the drinks were very reasonable. On Tuesdays they have this event, mostly for summer locals, called “Beat the Clock” where beers start off at 25cents at 9pm and go up in price by 25cents every half hour. This is by far the best night at Bar-A. Another cool spot is Headliners where the girls leave all morals and prudish behavior at the door and let it all hang out – literally. Fists were pumping, drinks were being housed and girls were taking off their tops. This is the epitome of the shore. Belmar is the guido capital of the world, they firmly occupy 8 blocks long and 5 blocks deep of row houses, 15-30 people packed in a house, all getting f*$%^ up from Friday night until Monday morning, all weekend, every weekend, from Memorial day weekend until Labor day weekend.
Club Bamboos is a jungle. The bar is both inside and out. The inside bar plays mostly rock while the outside bar is a huge spread of tables, chairs, pink neon bamboo trees and 3 outside bars in the center. By this time, the cops have usually parked their cars right outside of the gate because fights break out as fast as drinks are ordered.
On a Sunday you usually wake up to a girl you don’t know, but call her Lisa anyway (thank you Hollyscoop) you shower, get some breakfast from Bakin Bagels in Ortley Beach and go over to Surf Club where the party starts at 12pm. Surf Club Sundays is a highlight for many people. Imagine doing what you did the night before at 12pm right on the beach. Total spring break scene, but with tons of steroids and fake amenities and drinks being served by waitresses on the beach, the tiki bar in full effect for regulars, and the strange yet intriguing party goers dancing by the waters edge.
There is no other place on earth link the Jersey Shore. These cats don’t just go and have a few drinks and dance. It is a 48 hour non-stop party that is over at 11pm on Sunday when everyone jumps back on the parkway and goes North. They usually see the light on Tuesday when they know they will be coming back down the shore in 3 short days."
Thank you Alex for bringing us the scoop from “The Jersey Shore”.
