Halle Berry Apologizes For Racial Slur

Halle Berry has issued a public apology for the anti-Semitic joke she made on The Jay Leno show.

While taping Friday’s show, Berry showed some funny looking pics of herself(the ones you can distort on a MAC) and said: "Here's where I look like my Jewish cousin!"

Unfortunately for Halle, she got no laughs from the audience and requested the footage to be edited out.

An audience member tells PageSix, "Ms. Berry should know how unbelievably inappropriate her comment was. She should be ashamed of herself."

Berry insisted in her apology that she did not mean any harm, "I so didn't mean to offend anybody - and after the show I realized it could be seen as offensive, so I asked Jay to take it out, and he did.

"What happened was I was backstage before the show and I have three girls who are Jewish who work for me. We were going through pictures to see which ones looked silly, and one of my Jewish friends said (of the big-nose picture), 'That could be your Jewish cousin!' And I guess it was fresh in my mind, and it just came out of my mouth. But I didn't mean to offend anybody. I didn't. I didn't mean any harm."

Don’t people(not only celebrities) know that jokes about race/ethnicity are just not funny? They really do offend and hurt people.

it isnt cool and she shoudl know that considering the fact that she is black. im sure she would get all crazy if someone made a black joke on her.you would think she would be a little more sensitive to racial jokes

I wonder if the aclu and all the blacks who insisted that imus be taken off the air are gonna demand the same treatment of ms.berry? I highly doubt it. After all, she is black and far more superior then us. Heres the thing, i personally dont feel that she should be hung out to dry, i feel that she is sorry and i do believe her that she didnt mean to offend anyone. But it just goes to show the socialist liberalism in this country and the hypocrisy that exists. They can say what they want but we have to wakl on pins and needles. I am sick and tired of it.

oh jesus, not another "this person used a racial slur" controversey... seriously people, lighten up. yes, it is possible to take things too far. in this instance, she didn't. america needs to stop being so sensitive about this shit. there is a line that shouldn't be crossed, but jokes like this are funny and even as Halle pointed out - her jewish assistant said it! i swear, people in this day and age look for ANY kind of shit to piss and moan about. everyone wants to run around screaming "equality and respect for all!" and while the message is important, and valid - people take it out of context. why can't we all just accept that we're all human beings, and that we come from different places, and that a huge part of that will entail us BEING DIFFERENT FROM EACH OTHER. who cares if we laugh about your nose being bigger than mine because you come from jewish decent, or that your hair is kinda nappy because you're of african american decent. yes, she shouldn't have said it on air while taping a show - i agree with that. but at the same time, there was obviously nothing negative meant by what she said. it was a joke. that's it. STOP BEING SO OFFENDED AT EVERY TURN AND CHANCE YOU GET. LAUGH WITH EACH OTHER, STOP LOOKING FOR FIGHTS.

Okay, Halle used poor judgement in probably what she said in wanting to make light of all the interviews which she has been talking about her pregnancy in public even though she loves talking about in private as noted in a recent interview on The Tavis Smiley Show last week. Look, I am Jewish, didn't see the Tonight segment. She made a mistake and apologized and it should be dropped. She is not in the same category as Don Imus or Mel Gibson on this one. Hopefully, this will blow over. I would be more upset at the comment she made on Tavis's show about hysterically laughing about that there would be no beatings etc in her home with her baby joking about beating and domestic violence referring to her childhood. And yet nobody has run to the media with that comment. She did apropriately answer the questions about how she sees herself in the African American community and her role as an AA woman in the entertainment community which I am surprised some folks (no offense) haven't been getting their undies in a bunch for thinking she's a sellout and owes them.

BTW Halle didn't make a racial slur she made an Anti-Semitic slur/Jewish joke. Being Jewish isn't a race like Asian, African American, Native American, White, etal. It's a religion, culture, ethnicity. Her comment is no different than Oprah making her A-S/Jewish comments. Not condoning what she said. It was a mistake.

It's so funny how these Blacks think they look Jewish or Arab, in their dreams. Then again Halle had many plastic surgeries to look white, and she certainly looks less Black now and might pass for a Jew or Iraqi or Saudi Arabian or Lebanese.
