Grey Gardens

Before Grey Gardens aired on HBO, there was buzz that an Emmy could be in the cards. This has lead to tension between the movie’s two stars, Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange.

According to Page Six, HBO execs have been pushing Drew to put herself in the running for Best Actress in A Movie or Miniseries category. HBO wants her co-star Jessica Lange to be in the Supporting Actress category, which she doesn’t agree with.

A source tells them, "Her immediate reaction was that she's won two Oscars, and that she has equal screen time to Barrymore. She felt she wasn't a supporting character in the film, and that it'd be dishonest and a manipulation of votes. She didn't want a part of it."

After weeks of going back and forth, HBO has decided to allow Barrymore and Lange to go head-to-head in the lead actress category. The Page Six insider says, "Now we have a scenario where either Lange will go home empty-handed, or neither will win. It's unfortunate."

Both Drew and Jessica deny the tension. Lange’s rep says, "Prior to the decision being made, there was lots of discussion between Drew, the studio and Jessica. Obviously people wanted a scenario where everyone was happy. At the end of the day, HBO was the one who looked at the screen time and made the call."

HBO is also saying they had nothing to do with the Emmy decision. The network issued a statement saying, "HBO would never presume to dictate which category an actor chooses for award submissions. We do engage in a dialogue with actors and filmmakers to facilitate the process, but the actor's decision is always final." The roles were pretty similar in size, so we understand that both would want to be in the running for Best Actress. But who do you think would win? Drew or Jessica?
The trailer has just come out for Grey Gardens, starring Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange. It’s a remake of the 1975 documentary about the aunt and cousin of Jacqueline Kennedy Onasis, who live in a decrepit old mansion in East Hampton.

Get ready to see Drew Barrymore like never before. You can see she really pours her heart into the role of Edie, who is eternally jealous of Jackie for becoming the First Lady.

The women live in the East Hampton house until they are forcibly removed by the authorities, deeming the house unlivable for human conditions. Jackie O eventually takes over renovating the house so that it meets city code in 1972.

The remake actually looks really impressive. It’s an interesting part of history that has for the most part remained a mystery. It’s interesting to see a side of Jackie O’s personal life that is so different from what the public saw on a regular basis.

Catch Grey Gardens on HBO April 18th.
