She’s signed on to play Carol Ferris, who also happens to be the love interest for Ryan Reynolds’ character Hal Jordan.

The story follows Hal, a second-generation test pilot, who has been charged with defending a sector of the universe with a mystical green ring.

Ryan Reynolds has beat out Justin Timberlake and Bradley Cooper for the role of Green Lantern! The search for the lead character lasted for months, with producers screen-testing dozens of possible candidates, including Jared Leto and Tudors star Henry Cavill.

But according to the Hollywood Reporter, Ryan beat out everyone for the role, making him the first actor to play heroes for both Marvel and DC. As you probably know, Ryan played Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. His character for that film is also expected to get a spin-off movie of its own.

Green Lantern is part of an intergalactic police force who fights off enemies using a magic ring that can conjure up multiple powers. Martin Campbell, who directed Casino Royale, will direct the film. Shooting is reportedly slated to begin in January.

Congrats to Ryan!

More comic movie news to report!

Today it was announced that Bradley Cooper is the frontrunner to play the lead role in the upcoming movie Green Lantern! You may remember him from Wedding Crashers, He’s Just Not That Into You, and The Hangover, but now Cooper will have the chance to carry a film.

Movie website HitFix is reporting that Bradley is currently the favorite for the role, but Chris Pine is also reportedly in negotiations as well. According to insiders, director Martin Campbell likes to screen test a lot of actors before making his choice.

Here’s the background on the character: Hal Jordan, introduced in 1959, is a second-generation test pilot, an ordinary man who was given the power ring and battery (lantern) by a dying alien named Abin Sur. When Abin Sur's spaceship crashed on Earth, the alien used his ring to seek out an individual to take his place as Green Lantern: someone who was "utterly honest and born without fear."

Think Bradley Cooper can pull off the role? Let us know in the comments!
Comic strips into movies are hot right now! Next up to make its big screen debut is the Green Lantern. It's currently in development with the team of Marc Guggenheim, Greg Berlanti, and Michael Green writing the script.

Guggenheim says, "I think Green Lantern has the potential to be a very highly regarded superhero movie. We're approaching it with such respect and such care. And really, it's written to be a movie that everyone who's not familiar with the character can enjoy, but there are so many nods to things that I know the fans love and care about that I think people will be very happy."

For those of you unfamiliar, Green Lantern is the name of several super heroes who possess a ring that gives the user great control over the physical world as long as the wielder has sufficient willpower and strength to wield it. The script has been getting great reviews, and insiders think it has the potential of being bigger than Iron Man or maybe even The Dark Knight.

Are you excited to see a big screen adaptation of Green Lantern? Who should be the leading men?
