On Friday morning George Clooney was arrested outside of the Sudan Embassy in Washington after protesting Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir.
After a short stint in jail, Clooney was released after paying the $100 bail. George joked of his time in the pokey:
“Really rough you can imagine…Have you ever been in a cell with these guys?”
Celebrity arrests are nothing new, but it’s a different story when they’re arrested for standing up for a cause. George joins a handful of other celebs who have been arrested for protesting:
Daryl Hannah: Last year, actress Daryl Hannah was arrested in front of the White House along with some other environmental protestors. They were protesting a planned oil pipeline from Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast.
Lucy Lawless: Last month, the Xena actress was arrested with five other Greenpeace Activists for protesting oil-drilling. The group was protesting on an oil-drilling ship in New Zealand, which they broke onto. Lawless was charged with burglary.
Danny Glover: In 2010, Danny Glover was arrested with 11 other people during a labor union protest. The arrest happened at the Maryland headquarters of food service company Sodexo.
Jessica Alba: She wasn’t officially booked, but Jessica was under investigation after defacing parts of Oklahoma City. She was reportedly plastering posters of great white sharks to raise awareness of their endangerment.
Hayden Panettiere: Hayden joined anti-whaling group Sea Shepherd in a confrontation in Japan against fisherman during a dolphin hunt. An arrest warrant was issued for the star, but charges were later dropped.
Martin Sheen: The granddaddy of them all, Martin Sheen has been arrested over 70 times for various protests.
