Singer Gavin DeGraw’s publicist just released a statement regarding his condition:
“Gavin DeGraw is currently recovering and in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital where he was taken late Sunday night by ambulance after he was attacked by a group of assailants. He suffers from a concussion, broken nose, black eyes, cuts and bruises. The police are conducting an investigation of the attack. Gavin and his family appreciate everyone's concern at this time.”
Around 4 a.m., DeGraw was walking in New York City’s East Village reportedly after a night of drinking. DeGraw was attacked by three unknown men. He then fled and was hit by a cab about a mile away.
DeGraw suffered a concussion, broken nose, black eyes, as well as some cuts and bruises. According to police, a 911 caller reported a man with blood on his shirt who appeared to be “heavily intoxicated”. Sources from the police told People magazine that DeGraw doesn’t remember a lot of the attack and it’s probable that he wasn’t sober. They also revealed that “some kind of argument” occurred between the strangers and the singer. Police say that he “can’t clearly recall” what the argument with the three men was about, and the “assailants were unknown to the victim.”
DeGraw is currently at Bellevue Hopsital. He has cancelled performances scheduled for this Friday and Saturday.
So far, there’s been no real information about the motive of the attack, the identity of the assailants or how DeGraw was able to get a mile away only to get clipped by a cab.
Regarding those questions, DeGraw’s reps have said, “we have no additional details at this time.”
Police are hoping witnesses will come forward with information, or that security cameras picked something up.
DeGraw is a New York City resident, and the attack occurred close to National Underground, a club he owns with his brother. He was spotted there before the incident. After the assault, Gavin was seen at 19th street and 1st Avenue, thirteen blocks away. Gavin’s rep continued,
“We have no information yet regarding his upcoming concert dates and promotion for his new album."
DeGraw is currently on tour with Maroon 5. He was set to perform at NTC’s Jones Beach on Friday and had a Saturday show in Mansfield, Massachusetts.
Maroon 5 singer, Adam Levine, tweeted of the incident:
“Please send your love to @gavindegraw tonight. We love you buddy. Get well and get back out there!”
