There’s a lot of buzz surrounding Gabourey Sidibe’s Elle magazine cover. Critics are slamming the publication, claiming the Precious star was photoshopped to look lighter-skinned.

But Elle defends themselves saying "nothing out of the ordinary" was done. "We have four separate covers this month, and Gabby's cover was not retouched any more or less than the others," the magazine said in an official statement.

"We had 25 cover-worthy subjects in our portfolio and we chose Gabby because of who she is. We shot this as a story of exuberant young women changing the world. If you take a look at the portfolio, each of the women were shot in different ways and for different reasons."

They are referring to the fact that this month’s issue has four different versions—Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried and Lauren Conrad appear on the other three. Their shots are full-length, while Gabby’s is closer-up, also adding to the controversy.

It's not the first time accusations of skin lightening have been made. In 2008, L'Oréal received complaints that it had allegedly lightened Beyoncé's skin in a Feria ad.

Sidibe’s rep has since issued a statement to Access Hollywood saying, “Gabourey is absolutely thrilled to be on the cover of Elle magazine’s 25th anniversary issue.”

It doesn’t seem like Gabby’s too concerned with it—she’s just excited she’s a cover girl! What do you think…was her skin lightened?
Happy birthday Elle magazine! In honor of it's 25th anniversary Elle magazine profiles 25 women at 25 and there are four different October covers which feature Lauren Conrad, Amanda Seyfried, Megan Fox, and Gabourey Sidibe.

Check out the tidbits below and make sure to check out Elle.com to see who else made the list.

Lauren Conrad on the best part of being in her twenties:
“It’s your time to be selfish; you still have freedom.”

Lauren on where she thought she’d be now:
“I was never that girl who just wanted babies. I wanted a career before all of that.”

Amanda Seyfried on the best and worst things about turning 25:
“The best thing is, I’m happy. The worst is that I’m scared; the scariest thing is that I know it can’t be easy—the years to come.”

Gabourey Sidibe on celebrating her twenty-fifth birthday:
“Part of me thought it would be weird if people knew I was a grown-up playing a teenager in Precious. So I had a twenty-first-birthday party. We had drinks and went to a strip club called Shotgun Willie’s.”

Megan Fox on being married:
“When I talk about my husband [Brian Austin Green], I feel as if people roll their eyes. It’s like when you’re 16 and order a martini, and the waiter says, ‘Do you think I’m stupid?’ They can’t grasp that I’m old enough to be married.”

With the performance of the year, Golden Globe-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe is reinventing what it means to be a Hollywood "It" girl.

In the February issue of Harper's Bazaar, the star of Precious goes glam and gives an honest interview about the fast rise to fame. Check out the highlights from the interview below...

Gabourey on doing the Harper’s Bazaar shoot: “I feel like a model. It justifies everyone in my life who told me I wouldn’t be anything until I lost weight. It justifies that little girl who cried because she didn’t think she could be in front of the camera. And it’s for other girls who feel like they can’t do this or that and feel like they’re not pretty and not worthy of having their photo taken.”

Gabourey on her favorite outfit, the red David Meister dress she wore to the L.A. premiere of Precious: “It was so va va voom, my boobs looked so good in it. I had diamonds on too. Diamonds really do it.”

Gabourey on her confidence: “People always ask me, ‘You have so much confidence. Where did that come from?’ It came from me. One day I decided that I was beautiful, and so I carried out my life as if I was a beautiful girl. I wear colours that I really like, I wear makeup that makes me feel pretty, and it really helps. It doesn’t have anything to do with how the world perceives you. What matters is what you see.”

Gabourey on being excited about other big stars now in her orbit: “Man! Justin Timberlake is always good. God, there are so many hot dudes in Hollywood right now. I’m such a fanny, fanny girl. Bradley Cooper. How hot is he?”

Gabourey on her frustration with some media synopsis’ of Precious: “‘Gabby Sidibe is an overweight black girl who is illiterate and pregnant by her father,’” she parrots. “Look, I am black. I’m also overweight, but that’s not the point of the story. The point is the abuse and her bravery. This stuff happens to skinny people, to white people, to so many different people that they’ve missed the point if they say it’s about a fat girl.”
