The people have spoken. And it turns out: you have an undying love for Katy Perry, Glee is still a thing, and Neil Patrick Harris does a damn good job pretending he's not gay. That was the gist of the 2012 People's Choice Awards, but there was oh, so much more.
Fans voted online for their favorite artists, entertainers, performers, etc., and then everyone crowded L.A.'s Nokia Theater to see who got what. The show, peppered with skits, Demi Lovato songs and inspirational speeches, was just what it's supposed to be—entertaining. And without further adieu, here are the best and worst moments of the 2012 People's Choice Awards.
Most Inspirational Moment: I think we all love Emma Stone because, if anything, she seems genuine. And her realness was evident in her acceptance speech when she took home the People's Choice Awards for Favorite Movie Actress and Favorite Comedic Movie Actress. Stone explained that she moved to Los Angeles eight years ago this week.
"The biggest thing I have learned was that you have to stay true to yourself. And don't be afraid — even though people might say that what you're doing isn't cool or isn't right — I promise you, you will not regret it if you stay true to who you are and what you do. Because there is no other reason I'm up here today."
Best Audience Reaction: The dudes of The Vampire Diaries could barely present the award for Favorite Comedy Movie because of the audience's screaming. Forget Bieber fever, this year people have Vampiremania.
Diva Moment: When Maroon 5 won Favorite Band, Adam Levine selfishly grabbed the award from his band member, whatshisname . Dude, no one even knows the guy's name (Mickey Madden). Let him have this. You really do have moves like Jagger—you're a diva!
Most Huh? Moment: Water For Elephants winning Favorite Drama? It was up against The Help and Moneyball, which are both dominating awards season this year. Water for Elephants bombed at the box office. Kind of left us scratching our heads.
Best Skit: Parks and Recreation stars gave us the funniest moments of the night. Aubrey Plaza and Chris Pratt swallowed swords, Rob Lowe made host Kaley Cuoco fall in love with him, Aziz Ansari showed how he could "wear the hell out of a suit."
Most Awkward Moment: God love her, but Sharon Osbourne used her presenting opportunity to complain about not being nominated for The Talk. Not only was it relentlessly awkward, it left a lot of people wondering what the hell The Talk is. Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs presenting Favorite Band came in a close second for most awkward moment.
