Emile Hirsch. biography
Emile Hirsch was born on March 13, 1985, in Palms, CA, and began acting an early age. At the age of 11, Emile made his television debut in the series Kindred: The Embraced, followed by guest roles on Two of a Kind, Sabrina: the Teenage Witch and Third Rock From the Sun.
Emile slowly transitioned into more dramatic roles, appearing in NYPD Blue and E.R., as well as made-for-TV movies Gargantua and Houdini.
Emile popped up on the Hollywood radar after landing the role of Francis, a Catholic school student in The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys (2002) and a spoiled, short-cut driven student in The Emperor's Club (2002), alongside Kevin Kline. In 2004 Hirsch's success continued as he starred in The Girl Next Door with Elisha Cuthbert.
In 2005, Emile starred in Lords of Dogtown, a film based on the lives of famous teen skaters during the 1970s. Although that film was a box office failure, Emile found success two years later portraying drug dealer Jesse James Hollywood, in the real-life based drama Alpha Dog (2007). His talent was ultimately recognized worldwide for his performance as Christopher McCandless in Sean Penn's Into the Wild (2007), in which he lost 40 pounds to accurately portray the character.
Emile went on to star in the critically acclaimed film Milk (2008), starring Sean Penn and James Franco, followed by Taking Woodstock (2009). He continued his success with roles in the comedy thriller Killer Joe (2011) alongside Matthew Matthew McConaughy, the sci-fi thriller The Darkest Hour (2011). The following year, he co-starred in Oliver Stone's thriller Savages (2012) with John Travolta, Benicio Del Toro, and Salma Hayek, the drama Twice Born (2012) alongside Penelope Cruz, and the novel-based drama The Motel Life (2012) opposite Dakota Fanning.
Emile's most recent projects include the comedy Prince Avalanche (2013) opposite Paul Rudd, the drama thriller Lone Survivor, based on the failed mission "Operation Red Wing," starring Mark Wahlberg and Eric Bana, the mini-series Bonnie and Clyde (2013) and the war drama Midnight Sun (2014) with Jesse Eisenberg.
Is Emile Hirsch Gay?
Rumors claiming Emile Hirsch is gay erupted after his assistant walked in on an awkward moment between Emile and Speed Racer co-star Kick Gurry.
Emile says, "Me and Kick were in the trailer hanging out. Kick was sitting back with his hands behind his head and I was doing push ups. It was hot so I peeled my driver's suit down a bit, and then Eric, the wonderfully gay production assistant, walked in. I jumped up really quick, but I was out of breath. Eric slammed the door shut. We went to Eric later and tried to explain. He was like, 'Shhhhh. I will never tell.'"
Emile later starred as Cleve Jones, a gay activist, in Gus Van Sant's biopic Milk.
