Emile Hirsch is clearing up rumors that he's gay after his assistant walked in on him during an awkward moment between Hirsch and his co-star Kick Gurry.

The incident occurred in Germany while Emile was shooting Speed Racer.

Emile says, "Me and Kick were in the trailer hanging out. Kick was sitting back with his hands behind his head and I was doing push ups. It was hot so I peeled my driver's suit down a bit, and then Eric, the wonderfully gay production assistant, walked in. I jumped up really quick, but I was out of breath. Eric slammed the door shut. We went to Eric later and tried to explain. He was like, 'Shhhhh. I will never tell.'"

Hmmm, that does sound just a little suspicious, but it could have been just a misunderstanding. Emile doesn't strike us as the gay type. But that's an awfully long explanation for what happened! It makes him sound guilty!

Ready, Set, GO! Speed Racer is about to make it's marks on the big screen. The stars of the film Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci, John Goodman, Susan Sarandon and Mathew Fox were out yesterday promoting their latest flick at the 2008 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.

If you haven’t heard of Speed Racer, here's the scoop. It's a live action film adaptation of the 1960's Japanese animated series Speed Racer. 'Into The Wild' star Emile Hirsch takes on the role as Speed, the hero of the animated series, and Christina Ricci portrays Speed's girlfriend, Trixie.

SR was produced in Germany at Babelsberg Studios, where filming took place entirely against a green screen. The movie was also filmed in high-definition, using a layering method to put both the foreground and the background of scenes in focus to have a real-life anime appearance.

Speed Racer will race into theatres on May 9, 2008. To check out the colorful movie trailer check out the video below.
