Ellen Wants to be Compassionate on Idol

Ellen Degeneres is the newest kid on the American Idol block, and she wants to make sure she doesn't make any enemies.

She talked with Ryan Seacrest this morning on his radio show and told him, "I'm not going to be mean. I hate it when Simon's that mean."

Ellen, being the sweetheart she is, is also very concerned with how Paula Abdul is dealing with the news. She told Ryan, "I hope Paula's OK with it. I don't want anyone to think I took Paula's job away."

“Paula was a huge part of the show, and that’s a role that needs to be filled by someone in a totally different way."

As for her judging style? Ellen says she wants to be the nice guy. She says, “I think you can be honest in a pretty kind way. I hope to be that compassionate person. That’s the one thing Paula did bring, that compassion.”

Ellen also doesn't think it's necessary to have a background in music to be a judge on the show. She says, “I’m just a fan like everybody else. Ultimately, it doesn’t come down to some expert in the music industry, it comes down to the person at home that says, ‘That’s the person I relate to and whose records I’m going to buy.’ I hope to be that voice.”

It's hard to disagree with Ellen when she puts it that way! She's just so darn nice you have to love her! Think she's going to be a good replacement on Idol?
