Great news — Ellen DeGeneres will host the Oscars!
The comedian and daytime talk show host announced the news on her Twitter today, better known as the best day ever.
In a press release, Ellen added, “I am so excited to be hosting the Oscars for the second time. You know what they say, the third time’s the charm.”
Dance party, heyyyyyyyy!
She emceed the ceremony back in 2007, making this a triumphant return to the awards show.
And in Hollywood, sequels always tend to be bigger and better than their first installments, so we’re expecting Ellen to go all out this time around.
Ellen should also please critics, who found faults with last year’s host Seth MacFarlane’s not exactly family-appropriate opening monologue.
That detail didn’t concern Oscar producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, but they did express in a joint statement how thrilled they are to have Ellen on board.
“As a longtime friend, we had always hoped to find a project for us to do together and nothing could be more exciting than teaming up to do the Oscars. There are few stars today who have Ellen’s gift for comedy, with her great warmth and humanity.”
The 86th Annual Academy Awards airs next year, March 2, 2014, on ABC.
