Eddie Murphy Steps Down as Host of 84th Academy Awards
First Brett Ratner, and now Eddie Murphy. The actor has confirmed that he will not be participating in the 84th annual Academy Awards show afterall.

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President, Tom Sherak, announced that Murphy has withdrawn his role as host. And apparently, it's because of Ratner's resignation. Ratner is the director behind Tower Heist, which Eddie Murphy stars in and is currently in theaters.

"I appreciate how Eddie feels about losing his creative partner, Brett Ratner, and we all wish him well," said Sherak.

Murphy commented:

"First and foremost I want to say that I completely understand and support each party's decision with regard to a change of producers for this year's Academy Awards ceremony. I was truly looking forward to being a part of the show that our production team and writers were just starting to develop, but I'm sure that the new production team and host will do an equally great job."

Ratner pissed people off with recent comments he made about gays and his sex life in an interview with G4's Attack of the Show. As a result, he resigned as co-producer of next year's Awards ceremony. Ratner says that the Academy didn’t exactly beg him to stay on.

"It was a dumb way of expressing myself," Ratner said in a statement. "Everyone who knows me knows that I don't have a prejudiced bone in my body. But as a storyteller I should have been much more thoughtful about the power of language and my choice of words."

Sherak issued a comment on Tuesday evening about Ratner's resignation, saying:

"He did the right thing for the Academy and for himself." Adding, "Brett is a good person, but his comments were unacceptable.”

In the G4 interview, Ratner discussed his rumored relationship with Olivia Munn. Munn claims that she banged a Hollywood director on her way to the top, saying that he masturbated and ate raw shrimp in front of her.

"I used to date Olivia Munn, I'll be honest with everybody here," Ratner admitted. "She was hanging out on my set of 'After the Sunset,' I banged her a few times ... but I forgot her. Because she changed her name, I didn't know it was the same person, and so…she got pissed off. And she made up all these stories about me eating shrimp and masturbating in my trailer. And she talked about my shortcomings."
