Jeff Conaway of Grease fame has passed away after being in a coma for two weeks.
The 60 year-old actor had a public struggle with drugs and alcohol for the past ten years.
He was found unresponsive on May 11, and his manager first announced it was from an overdose of painkillers. But Celebrity Rehab’s Dr. Drew Pinsky is arguing it’s from long-term drug abuse.
"There is no evidence showing Jeff died from an overdose,” Pinsky said. “This was aspiration with overwhelming pneumonia and sepsis. Jeff is another example of a pharmaceutical death from the overutilization of prescription drugs. Please continue to pray for his friends and family. They appreciate your support.”
Conaway appeared in Celebrity Rehab in 2008. He also told Howard Stern in an interview that same year that he “tried to commit suicide 21 times.” He revealed that most of his attempts were with taking “enough pills to knock an elephant out.”
Conaway's family decided to take him off life support early Friday. Conaway’s girlfriend, Vikki Lizzi, was battling to keep him on life support, but in the end, Conaway’s family had the final say.
May he rest in peace.
