Dreamgirls Auditions Postponed

Auditions for the lead roles in a new stage version of the movie Dreamgirls has been put on hold out of respect for Jennifer Hudson and her family after the awful news of the deaths of her mother, brother, and nephew. Open castings were scheduled to begin on November 1st, but theater bosses thought it was a good idea to postpone them for the end of the month.

Producer John Breglio says the project is too closely linked to Jennifer for the auditions to go on at this time. He says, "Our prayers and thoughts are with Ms. Hudson and her family at this tragic time. Due to this horrific tragedy, we feel this is not the time for a talent search for a role that is so closely connected with Ms. Hudson."

We think this is a very respectful gesture on the production’s part. Jennifer made her mark in the industry after Dreamgirls, and it would be wrong to go forward with it during this time in her life.
