Born Aubrey Drake Graham on October 24, 1986, in Toronto, Canada, Drake first rose to fame playing Jimmy Brooks on the Canadian teen drama series Degrassi: The Next Generation.
While establishing himself as a talented actor, Drake released his first mixtape Room for Improvement (2006) prior to the show's producers kicking him off the cast in 2008. Struggling to make a living as an out-of-work-actor, Drake's career was altered forever when Lil Wayne called him up and recruited him to be on his tour later that year, officially igniting his rapping road to success.
After signing to Lil Wayne's label, Drake released his third mixtape So Far Gone (2009) with its lead single "Best I Ever Had" reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and officially putting Drake on the music map as an up-and-rising powerhouse.
In 2010, Drake's first studio album Thank Me Later debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 447,000 copies and has since sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide. The album went on to earn a nomination for Best Rap Album while its lead single "Best I Ever Had" earned a Best Rap Song nomination at the 52nd Grammy Awards.
Drake's second album Take Care was released in November 2011 and further expanded his reach over the rap game in part of its lead singles "The Motto," "Marvins Room" and "Take Care" dominating the airwaves and the charts. Debuting at number one on the Billboard 200, the album went on to win a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album.
Most recently, Drake released his lead single "Started from the Bottom" off his third studio album Nothing Was the Same (2013).
Apart from his solo career, Drake has been featured on several Grammy Award-nominated tracks, including DJ Khaled's "I'm On One" and Rihanna's "What's My Name."

Rumors that Drake and Nicki Minaj were hooking up ignited once they went on tour together. But the two thought nothing of the speculations, with Drake rapping in "Miss Me" off of Thank Me Later, "I love Nicki Minaj/ I told her I'd admit it/ I hope one day we get married just to say we f---ing did it/ And girl, I'm f---ing serious/ I'm with it if you with it/ 'Cause your verses turn me on and your pants are mighty fitted."
