Dr. Phil found himself in some hot water late yesterday afternoon after he posted a tweet soliciting opinions about whether or not it’s okay to have sex with a girl if she’s drunk.
The query, which relates to an upcoming talk show segment, drew criticism from all corners of Twitter; many took the poor phrasing—and that it was even a question at all—to mean Dr. Phil was rationalizing rape.
The tweet has since been deleted, but that didn’t stop users from channeling their outrage into the parody hashtag, #DrPhilQuestions.
While many are giving Dr. Phil the benefit of the doubt (most don’t believe he actually condones rape in any way, shape, or form) and can see the direction he was going with his question (which can be interpreted multiple ways), he should’ve worded it differently. Some questions are way too loaded to be constrained properly within 140 characters online without giving it a second, third, or fourth thought.
Also, that smirking avatar of his above a tweet asking if it’s A-OK to have sex with a drunk girl surely didn’t help.
