Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Score Bafta Nominations

Gotta love Award Show season! The British Academy has announced their nominations and Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are up for some awards again! Maybe they can score this time around.

Jolie is up against Kate Winslet in the best actress category, along with Meryl Streep and Kristin Scott Thomas.

Brad it also up for best actor along side Dev Patel Patel for Slumdog Millionaire, Sean Penn for Milk, Frank Langella for Frost/Nixon and Mickey Rourke for The Wrestler.

The awards will be held a few weeks ahead of the Oscars on Feb. 8 at the Royal Opera House in London.
Writers Guild Announces Nominations

The Writers Guild of America have announced their nominations for this years award show, and all of the usual suspects have made the cut. Leading the nominations are Milk, starring Dustin Hoffman, and The Wrestler, starring Mickey Rourke, which are both up for best screenplay. The other nominees in that category are Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Burn After Reading, and The Visitor.

The nominees for best adapted screenplay look pretty familiar! In the running are The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Doubt, Slumdog Millionaire, The Dark Knight, and Frost/Nixon.

As is this case with the Producers Guild, the Writers Guild picks often foreshadow who will be nominated for the Academy Awards. This is because many Writers Guild members are also Academy members. We definitely think the list will look similar.

All of the movies in the adapted screenplay category are top notch. We’ll have to wait until January 22nd to hear who’s in the running for this year’s Oscar! Shortly after, catch the Writers Guild Awards on February 7th.

Nothing Like the Holidays:A Puerto Rican family living in the area of Humboldt Park in west Chicago face what may be their last Christmas together.

Doubt: Set at a Catholic school in the Bronx, it centers on a nun who grows suspicious when a priest begins taking too much interest in the life of a young black student.

The Reader:
"The Reader" opens in post-WWII Germany when teenager Michael Berg becomes ill and is helped home by Hanna, a stranger twice his age. Michael recovers from scarlet fever and seeks out Hanna to thank her. The two are quickly drawn into a passionate but secretive affair...

The Day the Earth Stood Still:
A remake of the 1951 sci-fi classic about a humanoid alien named Klaatu (Keanu Reeves) who arrives on Earth accompanied by an indestructible, heavily armed robot and a warning to world leaders that their continued aggression will lead to annihilation by species watching from afar.

Gran Torino:
Disgruntled Korean War vet Walt Kowalski (Eastwood) sets out to reform his neighbor, a young Hmong teenager, who tried to steal Kowalski's prized possesion: his 1972 Gran Torino.
