Don Cornelius May Have Been Suffering Dementia
More details are emerging about the tragic suicide of Soul Train creator Don Cornelius.

Shemar Moore, a former host of Soul Train, is now revealing that Cornelius, his mentor, might have been suffering from dementia.

“I don’t know what his health was like,” Moore told ET Online. “I had heard rumors that it was early [onset] dementia, Alzheimer’s, things like that…I’d heard that he was sick.”

Moore says he was just as confused as anyone to find out that his friend had taken his own life.

"I hope that wherever he is now, he's at peace... I don't know how he got to this place," the actor said. "I don't know what made him take his own life this morning. But after we shed our tears, after we say our prayers, after we put him to rest in our own ways, I hope there's a lot of celebration [of his life]."

Tons of artists commented and paid tribute to Cornelius upon hearing yesterday’s news of his death. Singer John Legend told ESPN:

Soul Train was a big influence on me as I grew up watching his show every Saturday. I performed one of my first songs on his show. And I’ve always loved performing at the Soul Train Awards. It’s a very sad day for me. He will be missed.”

Patti Labelle called Don "simply a genius.” The singer added: “The contributions he made to music and our culture are second to none. I will always treasure the fond memories I have of working with Don over the years and being part of the history that he created through Soul Train. He will truly be missed and my heart and prayers go out to his family."
