Desperate Housewives

What is the cast of Desperate Housewives going to do now? There’s always the fear that after 8 years on a show, the cast will have a hard time finding other acting jobs.

There’s this thing called type casting where if Eva Longoria goes to an audition, the casting director might say “Ahhh, you look like you could play a suburban housewife and seduce a much younger gardener, but you definitely cannot play any other part. NEXT!”

That’s what the cast is afraid of happening to them once their show ends. Remember Ross from “Friends?” Exactly.

After rumors that Desperate Housewives would be cancelled at the end of this season, one of the shows stars, Eva Longoria decided to drop the bomb on twitter yesterday and confirmed that the show was indeed ending.

Longoria wrote, "It's confirmed! We are filming our last season of Desperate Housewives! I am so grateful for what the show has given me! We always knew we wanted to end on top and I thank ABC (TV network) for giving us our victory lap! And a special thanks to (show creator) Marc Cherry who forever changed my life!"

Looks like the "for sale" signs are going up on Wisteria Lane, Longoria’s news comes at the same time that the people in suits over at ABC made it official at the Television Critics Association meeting in Beverly Hills on Sunday.

HOLLYSCOOP EXCLUSIVE
Is it the end of Wisteria Lane? Desperate Housewives has been on the air since 2004, but slowly declining in the ratings. Hollyscoop spoke with James Denton ( Mike Delfino) who told us EXCLUSIVELY if the show is coming to an end.

"Right now all we have is this year and next year," Denton told us. This comes just months after the ABC drama hit its all-time low on the network in April. Denton explained, "All of the actors are signed just through next year. Yeah, nobody’s signed beyond eleven (2011)."

"Yeah, this is it," he went on. "Unless they can renegotiate, this will be the last season. So, I don’t think it that’s going to be an issue. I think everybody is happy to have jobs and are really grateful."

Denton says the show is all dependent on the female cast members. "We have to get the women," Denton told us. "It’s like re- negotiating with athletes. You have to get the women locked up first but uh, we are pretty confident to at least have this year and next year."

In particular, Denton especially values his TV relationship with Teri Hatcher, who plays Susan on the show. "Thank god for Teri Hatcher," Denton told us. "Our relationship has put my kids through college.

Kidding aside, Denton says he's just enjoying the time he has with the cast. "We are a family now," he said. "After working on the pilot, it’s been 8 years. So we are all really good friends."

But he also says it's tough to lose cast members, like Nicolette Sheridan, who left the show on bad terms last year. "We lose some every year. That’s really kind of sad. And it’s hard. But to those of us who are still there. Three guys; Doug Savant, Ricardo, and myself are still you know holding down the fort. They haven’t killed us off yet. So you know those of us who are still there are really thankful for the work in this economy and just having a really good time," he said.

Every show eventually has to end, even the good ones! So is it Desperate Housewives' turn? Tell us in the comments!

Brian Austin Green finally got himself an acting gig, so I guess we can all stop calling him David Silver now.

David Brian is finalizing a deal to join Desperate Housewives "for a major recurring role next season," reports Deadline Hollywood.

Brian will "play Keith, a new contractor and charming playboy who turns up the heat on Wisteria Lane."

He's set to appear in at least 8 episodes, but who knows, maybe Mr. Megan Fox can score a permanent gig. He landed the role after meeting with creator Marc Cherry last week.

It would be great if Megan would make a cameo on the show too. She can play the psycho ex girlfriend that comes into town and burns a house down or something.
We hear there’s a possibility of a hot new actress coming to Wisteria Lane! Rumor has it Vanessa Williams is being considered for a new addition to the cast of Desperate Housewives.

According to gossip site Zap2it.com, Williams is the front runner to play a new character on the show. And now that Ugly Betty is over, she’ll definitely have more time on her hands!

There was a reported recent casting call for an “African American mother and daughter,” but an ABC spokesperson said casting Vanessa isn’t set in stone. "We haven't really figured out what that person is," executive producer Bob Daily says. "What we're looking for is sort of a provocateur, a muckraker. We've had a couple different people filling that role over the years. When Dana Delany joined The Lane, her function was partially to sort of stir things up a little bit. I think that's really what we're looking for."

He added, "We love Vanessa Williams and I knew her name has been floated. If she were available, we would certainly be interested in talking to her. We haven't had a moment to really think about the new characters for next season. I think we're primarily looking for what kind of character we want to add next year. In terms of gender or age or race, we haven't thought that far yet. [Vanessa Williams] has come up, but nothing more at this point.”

We think she’s a perfect fit on that show!!
ABC bosses are reportedly in talks to offer Nicollette Sheridan a "peace package" so she can drop the $20 million dollar lawsuit she filed against Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry.

Bosses at ABC reportedly want to resolve the case before it heads to court, after Nicollette's lawyers said they intend to subpoena cast and crew members to give evidence if the matter goes before a judge.

Nicollette Sheridan Sues Desperate Housewives for $20 Million

An ABC source tells the Britain's Sunday Express, "Our legal team is working to get both sides together to see if they can help broker a compromise. This doesn't mean that anyone is going to hand Nicollette $20 million to drop her action and walk away but there are various incentives that might be put on the table."

As you recall, Nicollette claims Marc slapped her during an argument about a scene while she was still on the show, then fired her when she complained about his behavior.

Desperate Housewives Women Side With Creator

Nicollette's former co-workers Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman and Marcia Cross have released a joint statement expressing their support for Marc Cherry--not Nicollette.

Do you guys think Nicollette's case is a load of crap and she's just upset about being let go from the case? Or would Marc Cherry really risk his job by slapping her? Tell us your thoughts!
The stars of Desperate Housewives have taken a side. Stars Eva Longoria, Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross and Felicity Huffman have banded together in agreement that they support the show's creator Marc Cherry.

Last week, Nicollette Sheridan filed a $20 million lawsuit against Cherry claiming he'd hit her in the face and killed off her character after she complained about him. Sheridan's former co-stars have kept quiet about whose side they're on--until now.

The statement reads: "It would be irresponsible of us to let the public believe that being a part of this show from its inception has been anything but a blessing. We have no first-hand knowledge of what Nicollette may or may not have experienced, but we would never characterize our set as a hostile environment.

Desperate Housewives Castmates Support Nicollette Sheridan

"It is, in fact, the opposite. The friendships and support that Marc Cherry, the cast, the crew and the producers have shared for the past six years have made this a wonderful job that we are grateful for every day."

The statement also addresses Sheridan's mention of Teri Hatcher in her lawsuit "unfortunate and inappropriate." The suit alleged that when Hatcher went over Cherry's head to complain about him to ABC executives, he told Sheridan, "I hope Teri Hatcher gets hit by a car and dies."

Hatcher responded today saying: "While my adoration and respect for the classic and dynamic chemistry of the characters of Susan and Edie is indelible, I'm honored to stand with Eva, Felicity and Marcia, as a group and clarify that our set environment is nothing less than an amazingly positive experience. I have never felt discriminated against. In fact, I have felt heard and respected by Marc and other executives in regards to both my professional and personal needs."

Nicollette Sheridan Fires Back About Lawsuit

Wow, this pretty much makes Nicollette look like a crazy woman now. Even if one of the women stood by her, we'd have more reason to believe her story. But now that all the women have decided to stand by Cherry's side, it makes it a lot less likely.

Do you think the women are just doing this to save their jobs, or you think they're telling the truth?
Everyone’s been left shocked at Nicollette Sheridan’s sudden lawsuit against Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry. And while her co-stars on the show are staying mum on the subject, we hear they support Nicolette’s decision.

Sources tell the NY Daily News that all the women on the show have had their issued with Cherry, but don’t want to risk telling their stories for fear of losing their jobs. "Marc can sometimes think he's being funny, but he really just comes off as arrogant and rude," says the insider. "But the women mostly put up with it. He's considered a genius at what he does, and it kind of just comes with the territory."

Moreover, insiders say Teri Hatcher has dealt with the same issues as Nicollette. "Sometimes Teri doesn't appreciate Marc's 'humor,'" says the source. "But that doesn't mean she's going to get involved with this mess anytime soon."

Eva Longoria was on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show this morning, and called the lawsuit “a really big deal.” She wouldn’t take sides, but called Sheridan “a really sweet girl.” But she also said that Marc wouldn't harm a fly.

Nicollette Sheridan Fires Back About Lawsuit

The insider says the women aren’t likely to come forward, unless they were summoned to court. "They're all silently behind her, but the actresses on the show enjoy the fame and success that Marc has created for them," says the insider. "It's unlikely that anyone will step forward to support Nicollette - their characters are all still alive on the show, and they have a lot more to lose than she does."

We think Nicollette will definitely get paid off, so that this doesn’t go to court. She’ll probably receive the same amount of money she would have made had she stayed on the show for two more seasons!
Nicollette Sheridan has released a statement regarding her lawsuit against Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry and ABC. In the statement, she says she didn’t want to have to do this, but felt compelled to after Cherry’s behavior towards her.

She says in a statement obtained by the Hollywood Reporter, "Nicollette worked very hard on the show and was a model employee. Mr. Cherry's behavior towards Nicollette was and is nothing short of abusive and appalling.

The lawsuit is not something Nicollette wanted to do, it's something she felt compelled to do. Nicollette asked ABC for help and protection from Mr. Cherry's abusive behavior, and ultimately, ABC was not willing or able to provide that protection.

Sometimes the only way that a safe and normal work environment can be created is when a hard-working person like Nicollette stands up for herself and her rights, and in doing so help protect others who have had to work in a hostile environment.

We expect the case to be hard fought, and it will not be a surprise if ABC and Mr. Cherry try to depict Nicollette to be something other than a team player and long-standing industry professional.

She put her heart and soul into the role of the Edie character, a character that she truly enjoyed playing."

Now we’re just awaiting a statement from Cherry! These claims are so crazy we don’t know who to believe!
Nicollette Sheridan surprised everyone when she abruptly left Desperate Housewives. Everyone knew there was some sort of falling out but now we have learned exactly what the falling out was. Sheridan filed a lawsuit alleging that the show's creator Marc Cherry hit her in the face while on set and then fired her as a retaliation after she filed a complaint against him.

Nicolette Sheridan Explains Departure From Desperate Housewives

The lawsuit she filed yesterday in court is for $20 million claiming assault and battery, gender violence and wrongful termination.

So what happened?

After Cherry allegedly hit her on set, Sheridan yelled back "You just hit me in the head. That is not okay. THAT IS NOT OKAY!" according to the lawsuit.

Cherry then went to her trailer to "beg forgiveness," the lawsuit says, but Sheridan decided that she would still report him to ABC. Once she did that Cherry's behavior allegedly worsened. It got so bad that she got killed off the show.

Nicollette Sheridan To Be Killed Off Desperate Housewives

"The decision to kill off Sheridan's character demonstrates that Cherry and ABC intended to and did retaliate against Sheridan for her complaints about Cherry," the lawsuit says.

So what's ABC saying about the lawsuit? ABC Studios says in a statement: "While we have yet to see the actual complaint, we investigated similar claims made by Ms. Sheridan last year and found them to be without merit." Stay tuned! This might get ugly...
