In the book, Leary claims some parents use the brain development disorder as an excuse to explain their children’s "laziness", and blames the surge in autism on "inattentive mothers and competitive dads".
But he’s taken a step back since landing in hot water over the remarks. One mother of a 6-year-old with Saugus actually even dared him to spend one hour of his day with her son. Instead of taking that challenge, Denis told the Boston Herald, "I apologize for any pain the out-of-context quotes from my book may have caused."
Lame comments, lame apology!

Earlier this week, Leary angered autism activists by making a statement in his new book, saying the parents are just using the disorder to explain their academic “laziness.”
“Whoo! First of all, let me tell you, the autism community has received probably 10,000 emails [saying] ‘Go kill him!’ ‘Go yell at him,’” McCarthy told Access Hollywood.
“[But] it’s so hard to even get up enough juice in me or energy in me to even try to fight someone that is obviously stupid,” she added.
Leary also released a statement defending his comments against autism saying that his comments were misunderstood. He should have just kept his mouth shut. Don't these celebrities ever learn?

He says in a statement: “If they have read the book, they missed the sections I thought made my feelings about autism very clear: that I not only support the current rational approaches to the diagnoses and treatment of real autism but have witnessed it firsthand while watching very dear old friends raise a functioning autistic child."
Denis should have known better! If you’re a celebrity these days, you have to keep your mouth shut on controversial topics, or the public will criticize you. The only exception is politics!

In his new book Why We Suck: A Feel-Good Guide To Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy, and Stupid, he writes, He writes: "There is a huge boom in autism right now because inattentive mothers and competitive dads want an explanation for why their dumb-ass kids can't compete academically, so they throw money into the happy laps of shrinks... to get back diagnoses that help explain away the deficiencies of their junior morons. I don't care what these crackerjack whack jobs tell you - your kid is NOT autistic. He's just stupid. Or lazy. Or both."
Denis’ comments have sparked outrage at The Autism Society of America. A spokesperson for the group tells the New York Post: "For Mr. Leary to suggest that families or doctors conspire to falsely diagnose autism is ridiculous... His remarks reflect the same misconceptions of autism being caused by bad or unemotional parenting that were held over 50 years ago."
Seems like a pretty bold statement! One thing's for sure he should watch out for Jenny McCarthy who is probably coming for him!
