The news that Demi Lovato is getting treatment for “emotional and physical issues” has shocked all of her fans. But new information has come out regarding why she decided to finally get help.
Sources tell Us Magazine that Demi has been dealing with numerous issues like cutting herself and an eating disorder, and wanted to seek help before the problem got any bigger.
"She needed help before a smaller problem got worse," an insider said. "She is doing OK."
Several sources say a recent physical altercation with a female member of her tour finally drove Lovato to the edge.
No word on the specifics of the fight, but Demi has talked about bullying in the past. She recently told Hollyscoop at the American Music Awards nominations she had to leave school because of bullying.
"I actually left school when I was 12 years old," she told Hollyscoop. "I started home schooling. It was too much for me dealing with the cattiness of the girls and things like that. If you look on the news stand and the cover of People there is a whole issue about teen bullying and how it can end up fatal. I think it's really important to be spreading the word about bullying prevention."
We’re so sad for Demi! But how awesome that she is accepting help at the age of 18. That’s a hard age to actually realize you do have a problem—just look at Miss Denial herself Lindsay Lohan.
We fully support Demi’s commitment to getting better, and can’t wait for her to come back better than ever.
UPDATE: Disney has released a statement to show their support for Demi.
"We support Demi's decision to put her health first and we send her our best wishes," a Disney spokesperson tells People.
