Mary Richardson Kennedy, the estranged wife of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has died.
RadarOnline.com broke the news that the 52-year-old Kennedy was found dead in her Mount Kisco, NY home on Wednesday afternoon.
The circumstances surrounding her death are unclear, however, a source told RadarOnline that Mary committed suicide.
"We deeply regret the death of our beloved sister Mary, whose radiant and creative spirit will be sorely missed by those who loved her," Mary Kennedy's family said in a statement to ABC News. "Our heart goes out to her children who she loved without reservation. We have no further comment at this time."
Bedford Police would not confirm the identity of the deceased pending relative notification or the cause of death but did issue the following statement:
On May 16, 2012 at approximately 1:36pm the Bedford Police Department responded to...in this jurisdiction to investigate a possible unattended death. Responding officers confirm that a deceased individual had been located inside an out building on that property..."
RFK Jr. and Mary were married for 16 years and have four children together.
Kennedy Jr. is the son of former Sen. Robert Kennedy and the nephew of President John F. Kennedy.
Robert filed for divorce from Mary, his second wife, in May 2010. Three days later, she was arrested and charged with DUI after failing a number of sobriety tests and a blood alcohol test revealed she was intoxicated.
She later pleaded guilty to driving while impaired.
Our hearts go out to her family during this difficult time.
