We're sad to report that legendary actor Paul Newman lost his battle to lung cancer at the age of 83.

The Oscar winner passed away on Friday at his home in Westport, Connecticut, his publicist Jeff Sanderson said. He was surrounded by close friends and family when he passed.

Newman was best known for his role in 1967's Cool Hand Luke, and for starring opposite his close friend Robert Redford in 1969's Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and 1973's The Sting.

He was nominated for 10 Oscars during the course of his career, winning Best Actor for his role in The Color of Money in 1986. He also won two Golden Globes, A Screen Actors Guild Award, A Cannes Film Festival Award, and an Emmy. He retired from acting in 2007

Our condolences go out to his family and friends. You'll be missed Paul!
