Thanks to a "fire Letterman" rally that is set to take place today,
David Letterman has issued
another apology to
Sarah Palin for what he called "a bad joke."
"I told a bad joke," Letterman said during the taping of Monday's show. "I told a joke that was beyond flawed, and my intent is completely meaningless compared to the perception."
Letterman made headlines last week when he made a joke about Palin's 18-year-old daughter Bristol and former New York Gov. Elliott Spitzer and New York Yankee star Alex Rodriguez. Palin thought Letterman was referring to her 14-year-old daughter Willow, not Bristol and a war of words began.
Adding to his apology last night he said, "It's not your fault that it was misunderstood, it's my fault," Letterman said, getting applause from the audience.
"So I would like to apologize, especially to the two daughters involved, Bristol and Willow, and also to the governor and her family and everybody else who was outraged by the joke. I'm sorry about it and I'll try to do better in the future. Thank you very much."
Thanks to Letterman's apology, Palin says there's no hard feelings anymore and she accepts his apology. In a statement issued Tuesday, the Alaska Gov. said Letterman's apology was accepted "on behalf of all young women, like my daughters, who hope men who 'joke' about public displays of sexual exploitation of girls will soon evolve."
