Extortionist Robert Halderman’s lawyer Gerald L. Shargel appeared on the Today Show this morning to defend his client, who pleaded not guilty of Extortion on Friday.

CBS Producer in Letterman Extortion Case Pleads Not Guilty

CBS producer Joe Halderman pleaded not guilty in the extortion case against David Letterman.

Joe was arraigned in a Manhattan courthouse Friday afternoon for allegedly trying to extort $2 million dollars from David Letterman.

Prosecutors recommended bail of $500,000, but a judge set the amount at $200,000, reports People magazine.

New details have surfaced in the extortion plot against David Letterman.

TMZ reports that Robert Halderman was actually living with the woman that Dave was having a sexual relationship with. Her name is Stephanie Birkitt, and she is Dave’s former assistant!

And according to a search warrant obtained by Fox New York, Birkitt was Halderman’s girlfriend, up until just recently, and they were living together in Connecticut. Birkitt was regularly featured on The Late Show in taped segments.

New details have just surfaced in connection with David Letterman’s extortion case.

Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau concluded a press conference saying Robert Halderman was arrested after he tried cashing the $2 million phony check Dave’a lawyer gave him on September 30th.

He was indicted on one count of attempted first-degree grand larceny. If convicted, he faces from five to 15 years behind bars.

CBS Producer Arrested for Trying to Extort David Letterman

New details are starting to emerge surrounding the extortion plot against David Letterman, and they're not pretty!

It turns out the man behind the plot is an Emmy award winning producer at CBS, the same network that David Letterman's Late Show is on.
