American Idol star
David Cook and his family are mourning the loss of his brother Adam after he lost his battle with cancer.
Adam passed away on Saturday, just one day before the 12th annual Race for Hope 5K in Washington, D.C.
"I actually lost my brother yesterday to a brain tumor and I couldn't imagine being anywhere else right now," Cook told the crowd at the benefit for brain cancer research.
During the benefit, he said, "I lost one today," addressing all the runners, supporters and organizers, "but I gained 9,000 [friends] and I will be here every year that they will have me."
Cook served as Grand Marshall and ran with a team that raised $98,000 for brain cancer research.
If you all recall, Adam was flown to Los Angeles when David was competing on
American Idol back in April 2008. He was seen sitting front row center.
